Recruitment Underway for Paid Call FirefightersCrest Forest Fire Protection District Seeks Applicants By Michael P. Neufeld Crestline, CA - Paid Call firefighters are being recruited by the Crest Forest Fire Protection District. ![]() Recent graduates of the Crest Forest Fire Protection District PCF (Paid Call Firefighter) Academy take the oath from Assistant Fire Chaplain William Mellinger. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age, in good physical condition and have a valid California driver's license.
Crest Forest Fire officials indicate that as a paid call firefighter, applicants receive the necessary training and equipment to fight fire, respond to media-aid calls and traffic accidents.
District paid call firefighters carry pagers and respond to calls when they are available, as part of a paid call company. Members are committed to attending two nights of training each month.
Applications are now available at the Crest Forest Fire Department's headquarters office at 23407 Crest Forest Drive in Crestline. Call (909) 338-3311 for additional details. Neufeld, Senior News Editor, is a graduate of the Dwight Bentel School of Journalism at San Jose State University. His first job out of San Jose State was with the Associated Press in Los Angeles as overnight Radio Editor. Prior to joining RIMOFTHEWORLD.net, Neufeld was editor of two weekly newspapers—THE MOUNTAIN NEWS and CRESTLINE COURIER-NEWS. He also has experience as editor of an employee newspaper for a major utility company and during his tenure as executive director of the San Jose State University Alumni Association served as faculty advisor to the association's monthly newsletter. He also spent eight years in commercial radio doing everything from news to advertising sales and writing commercials to being an announcer and on-air personality.
