Update — Monday 5:25 a.m.
Big Bear City, CA — The Big Bear City man accused of mayhem has been transfered to state prison.
San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department records show John Roberts Evans, 32, was transferred early Monday morning.
Original Story
Big Bear City, CA – The Big Bear Sheriff's Department has arrested a 32-year-old Big Bear City resident on charges of mayhem, domestic battery and possession of a controlled substance, according to police reports.
Deputies responded to a call in the 900 block of Mt. Doble on Saturday morning and following their investigation placed John Robert Evans under arrest at 1:44 a.m. He was booked at the Big Bear Station on $100,000 bail on the mayhem charge and $10,000 bail for being in possession of a controlled substance.
California Penal Code Section 203 describes mayhem as follows: "Every person who unlawfully and maliciously deprives a human being of a member of his body, or disables, disfigures, or renders it useless, or cuts of disables the tongue, or puts out an eye, or slits the nose, ear, or lip is guilty of mayhem. Mayhem is punishable by imprisonment in the state prison for two, four, or eight years."
Additional details about the case have not been released.
In March, Evans was convicted of disorderly conduct for being under the influence of alcohol or drugs. He had been arrested on the drunk in public charge on February 25 in the 4100 block of Brownie Lane in Big Bear City.
Judge Jules Fleuret accepted Evans' guilty plea on March 25 with pronouncement of judgment ordered withheld and conditional and revocable release granted for a period of 36 months. Evans was instructed to violate no law (other than minor traffic) and not drink alcohol to excess. Judge Fleuret imposed a victim's restitution fine of $110.
