Big Bear City, CA - The investigation into the early morning fire that destroyed a single-family dwelling in the 1100 block of Mt. Verdi Road in Big Bear City is continuing.

The investigation, lead by the Big Bear City Fire Department, involved the Bomb and Arson squad and assistance from the Building and Safety Department.

The fire, reported shortly after 6:30 a.m. Monday, June 22, was knocked down in minutes, but arriving units discovered the vacant residence was fully involved.

The residence destroyed in a Monday morning blaze in the 1100 block of Mt. Verdi Road backs up to the San Bernardino National Forest. However, only several adjacent trees were involved due to flying embers. (Photo by Jim Tunnell.)

The fire that destroyed the residence, which backs up to the San Bernardino National Forest, spread to a couple of nearby trees due to flying embers.

A U.S. Forest Service engine company checked the area for spot fires. Other units responding included Big Bear Lake Fire and San Bernardino County Fire Station #49 in Fawnskin, according to scanner transmissions.

The vacation home is located in the Whispering Forest subdivision.
