By Michael P. Neufeld
Monday, July 14, 2008

Update — Monday 3:51 a.m.

San Bernardino Mountains - Paperwork for numerous local races on the November 4 ballot is now available from the Registrar of Voters. City Council candidates may obtain paperwork from the Big Bear Lake City Clerk.

The Presidential General Election ballot will be filled with federal, state and local races plus the return of a hospital bond for the Bear Valley Community Hospital that was narrowly defeated in June. In addition, at least 11 statewide propositions will require attention of voters.

Original Story

San Bernardino Mountains – The ballot for the November 4 Presidential General Election will be lengthy including federal, state and local races and at least 11 state propositions.

Beginning Monday, July 14 candidates for a host of local offices may take out candidate filing papers. The forms must be returned by 5 p.m. on Friday, August 8. If an incumbent fails to file, the deadline for that office is extended to 5 p.m. on Wednesday, August 13 for everyone except the incumbent.

The San Bernardino County Registrar of Voters has listed the following local races up for election on November 4:

Big Bear Airport District (3) Incumbents George Berge, Russ Lowery and Gary Steube

Big Bear City Community Services District (2) Incumbents Bob Colven and Rick Ollilia

Big Bear Lake City Council (2) Incumbents Liz Harris and Bill Jahn

The basic requirement for most of the aforementioned offices is that the candidate be a registered voter and reside within the district or division. Candidates will be provided informational handbooks at the time they obtain their papers.

Registrar of Voters staff will be available to assist candidates with completing the necessary paperwork and answer any questions candidates may have.

Further information about the election may be obtained from the Registrar of Voters at (909) 387-8300 or (800) 881-8683.
