Delamar Fire Scorches Quarter Acre (Update 4)Aerial and Ground Assault By Michael P. Neufeld Update 4 — Tuesday 5:38 a.m. Fawnskin, CA — The Delamar Fire that reportedly started at Yellow Post Site 33 off Forest Service Road 3N12 was contained after scorching a quarter acre in the San Bernardino National Forest on Monday.
The fire was spotted by a pilot at 4:24 p.m. and was reported contained about two hours later after an assault by aerial and ground crews. Two fixed-wing aircraft, a helitanker and almost a dozen engine companies battled the slow moving fire.
Over 500 campers at YMCA Camp Whittle were not evacuated.
The cause of the Delamar Fire is under investigation but authorities do not believe it was caused by lightning.
Update 3 — Monday 6:20 p.m. Fawnskin, CA — Due to better mapping, the Delamar Fire was reduced in size to 1/4 acre. Resources continue to be released as firefighters continue mopping up the fire that was reported near Yellow Post Site 33 off Forest Service Road 3N12.
Update 2 — Monday 6 p.m. Fawnskin, CA — Firefighters contained a one-acre brush fire near Delamar Mountain in the Fawnskin area.
The Delamar Fire was spotted by a pilot who reported the blaze and smoke at 4:28 p.m. Monday.
Update — Monday 5:17 p.m. Fawnskin, CA — Firefighters are attacking a brush fire near Delamar Mountain in the Fawnskin area. Over 500 campers are at nearby Camp Whittle but no evacuation is currently planned.
Additional tanker drops have been put on hold as ground crews battle the blaze.
Original story — Monday 5:06 p.m. Fawnskin, CA — Firefighters are responding to a reported brush fire near Delamar Mountain in the Fawnskin area.
A pilot flying in the area made the initial report about 4:30 p.m.
Early reports indicated less than an acre with moderate rate of spread. The first tanker is just approaching the fire.
