Mountain Top Days Grand Marshal Named
Running Springs Fire Chief Bill Smith
By Michael P. Neufeld
Sunday, July 20, 2008
Running Springs, CA – "I feel very privileged and appreciate the honor of representing the firefighters who battled the Slide Fire," Running Springs Fire Chief Bill Smith stated shortly after being named grand marshal of Mountain Top Days.
"I'm representing all the fire fighters," Smith told RIMOFTHEWORLD.net. Smith, who has spent his entire fire service career in the mountain communities, has been Running Springs chief for almost 10 years. Smith was raised on the mountain and grew up in Twin Peaks.

Smith's first official duty will be to serve as grand marshal of the Mountain Top Days Parade at 6 p.m. on Friday, August 1. Organizers Rod Cole and Terisa Bonito bill the parade as "one of the shortest parades with the biggest heart."
The caravan of entries will make their way through downtown Running Springs and finish with a street dance celebration with live music by the Paxtons.
Saturday's Mountain Top Days events will be held at Brulte Field on Highway 18 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Chairman Cole promises something for everyone, young and old alike.
Local fire, US Forest Service and search and rescue agencies will be on hand and participate in the "Bucket Brigade" contest to see which group can move the most water the fastest and win mountain bragging rights for the year.
In addition, there will be sack races, a baby crawl and toddlers run plus a chili cookoff (the most tastes win) and a select group of local artisan vendors.
The Running Springs Area Chamber of Commerce hosts the award-winning alcohol-free family fun event every August to showcase and promote the Running Springs community.
For additional information call Cole at (909) 867-6227, Bonito at First Mountain Bank at (909) 867-4242 or the Running Springs Chamber at (909) 867-2411.
