By Michael P. Neufeld
Wednesday, October 8, 2008

Big Bear Lake, CA - Make a difference in reducing and preventing criminal activity in your community by joining the Big Bear Valley Citizens On Patrol. The Big Bear Sheriff's Station is now accepting applications for COP volunteers.

"COP's assist Sheriff's Deputies as the eyes and ears of the Valley by patrolling neighborhoods, conducting vacation checks, helping with traffic control and local community events, and assisting with other duties," according to Service Specialist Tiffany Swantek.

The Big Bear Sheriff's Station will be conducting volunteer interviews on October 9 and 10 and the next COP Academy will begin on October 17. COP volunteers must be at least 18 years of age, have a high school diploma or GED, possess a valid ID, pass an interview and background check, go through a training course, be willing to attend monthly meetings and volunteer a minimum of 17 hours per month.

For more information and an application, stop by the station during business hours Monday through Friday or call Swantek at (909) 866-0103.
