Nestlé USA's Baking Division is initiating a voluntary recall of Nestlé TOLL HOUSE refrigerated cookie dough products. Nestlé is taking this action out of an abundance of caution after being notified that the Food and Drug Administration, together with the Centers for Disease Control, are conducting an investigation into reported E. coli 0157:H7 illnesses that may be related to consumption of raw cookie dough.

A portion of highway 30 was closed just before 2:00 pm Thursday due to a traffic collision. Prior to the accident, Colton Police and CHP were in pursuit of a light blue Lincoln coupe. According to scanner reports, the accident involved one of the Colton Police Department vehicles on the 30 at Baseline. The officers in pursuit stopped to assist the victims involved in the collision.

A Nissan Frontier pickup truck rolled over on State Route 38 near Jenks Lake Road at approximately 7:00 am. Paramedics, Forest Service, and California Highway Patrol arrived to find the driver had minor injuries. Officials on scene stated there was ice on the highway. "It's clear until you get to the Barton Flats area. Then it starts getting icy."

The Department of Transportation (Caltrans) is saddened to report the death of John Knabenbauer, 42, a Caltrans maintenance equipment operator in District 8. A vehicle exiting the 5th Street off-ramp on Northbound I-215 in San Bernardino, struck Mr. Knabenbauer. John suffered serious injuries and was transported to Loma Linda Hospital where he passed away.

At 4:43 pm Sunday, John David Kuykendall, 45, from Burson, California, was driving a motorcycle on Highway 173 in the area of Arrowhead Lake Road, east of Silverwood Lake. While negotiating a curve, the motorcycle left the roadway and went down the embankment. Witnesses advised authorities that a single-vehicle accident had occurred involving a motorcycle.

The recent fires have increased the chance of flash floods, and mud and debris flows from thunderstorms and winter storms. With these storms, areas downstream of the lands burned by the fires may have large storm flows carrying mud and debris, clogging streambeds, bridges and culverts. A 55 year-old resident of Palm Desert was traveling east bound on his 2005 Suzuki 650 motorcycle on State Route 38 near South Fork Camp Road at 11:15 am today. The rider lost control of the motorcycle and fell sliding into the westbound lane striking the front of a 2001 Nissan Maxima. Angelus Oaks Fire Department responded to the scene and the rider was pronounced dead at 11:40 am. The rider's identity is being withheld pending notification of his family according to the County Coroner's press release.

Devore Victims Identified
Vehicle Abandoned In Glendale
November 5, 2007

On November 3, 2007, at 9:46 am, a Fire Patrol Prevention Officer (FPPO) saw smoke coming from an area where a dark colored sport utility vehicle parked off the roadway north of the Kenwood Avenue exit from Interstate 15. As the officer drove to the area, the vehicle sped away. Upon arrival, the bodies of David Avina, 30, of Monterey Park, and Mario Castillo, 28, of Los Angeles, were found amidst burning debris on the Forest Service fire road. Both victims had upper body trauma and were pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics.

Additional Charges Filed Against Arson Suspect

On October 23, 2007, eyewitnesses stated that a suspicious individual was seen in the area of State Route 173 at Arrowhead Lake Road prior to a brush fire starting at that location. CHP helicopters followed the suspect to an address on SR173 and directed Sheriff's deputies to the address. John Alfred Rund, 48, from Hesperia, was arrested for arson.

Tanker 492 crash landed near Fox Farm Road and Sandalwood in Big Bear Lake at 1:12 pm. The pilot, Bill Penny of Phoenix, AZ, had an fuel warning light and alarm and was looking for an airport to land at, according to Beryl Shears, president of Western Pilot Service. Immediately after the warning, his engine lost power. Penny radioed Butler 2 Air Command, "I just had a engine failure, over the lake, going to put it in the field." He determined he didn't have enough altitude to reach Big Bear Airport and crash landed in a vacant field.

A 450-acre forest fire is burning to the north and east of Butler Peak near Hanna Flats. The so-called "Butler 2 Fire" was reported around 1:25 pm Friday afternoon, possibly starting from smoldering vegetation from the Butler Fire from September 1, according to officials. Driven by 20 to 30 MPH winds from the south, the fire quickly spread into the timber. Officials are worried that gusty winds, low humidities, and warm temperatures on Saturday will create explosive growth conditions for the fire.

On Monday, September 3, an unknown assailant stabbed an employee of Mountain Nursing Care Services just before 8:00 PM. The employee was opening the gate to the building located at 23493 Crest Forest Drive in Crestline when the attacker stabbed him on the left side of his chest leaving him with a one-inch deep laceration. The employee fell and struck his head against a fence and was unconscious for a short while.

85-Acre Butler Fire Forty-Five Percent Contained (Update 20)

InciWeb updated the status of the Butler Fire at 8:10 pm. The fire is 85 acres and forty-five percent contained. The decrease in acreage is due to better mapping of the fire. Early today, the east flank of the fire produced significant heat, but by 11:30 am, thunderstorm activity increased dropping ½ to ¾ of an inch of precipitation over the fire area. Crews took advantage of the rainfall and were able to secure containment lines. With significant precipitation today, demobilization of dozers and crews began.

During the evacuation on Saturday, October 25, 2003, Jeremiah Hope, 21, of Crestline at the time, allegedly drove his Subaru to a grassy area to just to the north of the Crestline Soaring Society hang glider launch area. While mountain residents were packing up their belongings in the dark, since power had been lost hours before, Hope, along with friends, parked his car to watch the fire burning in Waterman Canyon.
