Building Heat This WeekNational Weather Service in San Diego By News Staff Member A strong upper-level high pressure building over the southwestern U.S. will bring hot weather this week that will continue into the weekend. Thursday, Friday and Saturday will be the hottest days of the week where temperatures will be 6 to 12 degrees above average. Record highs may be broken.
High temperatures will range from 100 to 110 degrees in the Inland Empire, and from 93 to 103 in the San Diego valleys and inland areas of Orange County. Even the coastal zones will likely see highs in the 90s later this week. The best relief from the heat will be near the immediate coast where temperatures will be in the 70s and 80s.
In the lower deserts, projected high temperatures will range from 110 to 120 in places like Palm Springs and Borrego Springs.
In the upper deserts, the highs will range from 100 to 110. Temperatures in the foothills and the mountains below 6000 feet will range from 90 to 105.
The air mass will remain fairly dry this week. The hot and dry conditions will result in several hours of single digit afternoon humidities in the mountains and deserts.
This long duration heat event could pose health hazard, especially for the elderly, small children and pets. Avoid heat exhaustion and heatstroke by avoiding strenuous activities during the hottest part of the day. Wear lightweight clothing and drink plenty of water. Never leave people or pets in enclosed automobiles — even for a short time.
The areas affected include Orange County coastal areas, San Diego County coastal areas, San Bernardino and Riverside County valleys, the Inland Empire, San Diego County valleys, San Bernardino County Mountains, Riverside County Mountains, Santa Ana Mountains and foothills, San Diego County Mountains, Apple and Lucerne Valleys, Coachella Valley, and San Diego County deserts.
