Late Season Storm To Bring Low Snow Levels
By Scott Straley
Thursday, March 13, 2008
Lake Arrowhead, CA — Despite recent dry weather and warm temperatures, a quick moving Alaskan storm will set the stage for a cold weekend. A deepening marine layer will bring fog and drizzle to the coastal slopes late tonight through Friday. With a cold front passage on Friday and the approaching storm system, temperatures will cool dramatically and winds will increase.
Showers and thunderstorms will be likely Saturday and Sunday as the snow level falls to near 4,000 feet by late Saturday. Showers will linger into Sunday afternoon before drier and warmer weather returns for Monday.
Weekend visitors to the mountains, as well as residents, are urged to take normal winter weather precautions, including wearing warm winter clothing, carrying and using chains, making sure gas tanks are full, and delaying travel, if conditions warrant. While the storm is not expected to produce heavy accumulations, at this time, even a small amount of snow and ice can create dangerous driving conditions.
