Yesterday we found a brilliant orange Parking Violation Warning on our Bronco II, the same truck that was hit and damaged by a county contracted snow plow last winter (claim denied), parked in the same safe place, a very wide section of Oak Road in Skyforest. This is the parking intended for our house. But the notice states that no vehicles are to park anywhere on the road! This is going to apply to a lot of homes on this mountain! Who else got one?

A whole lot of folks. The county seems to have found a new revenue source. They were putting them on just about every car that was more than 2" into the road. There was a discussion about this on the CHP thread. There attitude seems to be that you can't park on the road, even though that conflicts with the vehicle code.
I don't know where this is going to go. The law is so vauge, I would think it would be unenforceable. However, the law has never stopped this wonderful county before.

I was told by the California Highway Patrol that there is no legal street parking in the Ban Bernardino Moutains. They would have a tough time enforcing that unless they put some sort of brightly colored notice on the cars or something. Here's an idea just leave your car there and let them tow it that will show them!

Once again oldguy dosent know what hes talking about! If they were seeking a revenue source these would be tickets and not WARNINGS! They are giving you the chance to correct the situation before towing! These warnings are an effort to get people to park in their driveways instead of in the road! The county is trying to gain compliance with residents before there is snow, and plows cant widen the road properly! SBD CO ORD 2024 clearly states that vehicles interfering with snow removal equipment even if there currently is no snow on the ground is subject to citation or tow. If your vehicle is parked in the same spot it was hit las year and your claim was denied. You think you would park elsewhere, COMMON SENSE! The county is working with CHP and the Sheriffs to began towing vehicles before snow! All orange notices are being documented so appropriate action can be taken. Just park your car off the street and dont listen to everything oldguy says, because you will end up paying a BIG fine!

Well, thats fine, but one fact is not everyone has off street parking on the mountain. Having lived on this mountain for 53 years, and never had problems like this before, it creates a new level of difficulty for most of us. The car was parked there for a couple years, as it is the original parking for our house, with no problems, up until some unexperienced plow drivers got to it. NEVER have any of our families cars been hit. Granted poles and trees have been hit, but a brightly colored SUV that was practically about to fall off the edge of the hill, off the road, is an easy obstacle to miss. No tires were even on pavement. Its the only place we could park it. It was the only option. There is no excuse for them to be so careless. They just need to be more careful.
A lot of houses up here weren't designed to have driveways. There are many without one, so what are those people supposed to do?

Ridger, it is kind of hard to issue a citation for interfering with a snow plow when there is no snow or snow plow. (It is called the elements of the crime, if you want to look it up.
And, since I don't know what I am talking about, perhaps you could explain what the state meant when they put this in the vehicle code:
22510. (a) Local authorities may, by ordinance or resolution,
prohibit or restrict the parking or standing of vehicles on
designated streets or highways within their jurisdiction, or portions thereof, for the purpose of snow removal. The ordinance or resolution shall not be effective until the street or highway, or portion thereof, has been sign-posted in accordance with the uniform standards and specifications of the Department of Transportation, or until the local authorities have caused to be posted in a conspicuous
place at each entrance to the street or highway, a notice not less than 17 inches by 22 inches in size, with lettering not less than one inch in height, setting forth the days parking is prohibited. The signs shall, at a minimum, be placed on each affected street or highway, at the boundary of the local authority, and at the beginning and end of each highway or highway segment included in that area. No person shall stop, park, or leave standing any vehicle, whether attended or unattended, within the area marked by signs, except when necessary to avoid conflict with other traffic or in compliance with the directions of a traffic or peace officer.
The emphasis is mine.
Any signs on your street??

My thought is this: If cars existed when these houses were built, then I'm fairly certain that they should've included a driveway in the plans, or else the house shouldn't have been built. Back in the old days, there was more land than homes and the smart people bought more land to accomodate their needs.
I'm sorry to point out the obvious, but if you don't have anyplace to put something, then you probably shouldn't have it!

One street in Crestline that I know has little off street parking is Scenic Drive. We used to live on Lakeview Drive and sometimes would drive down Scenic Drive to get to town. I always avoided it in the winter because there were so many cars on the road with no place to maneuver if my car were to slide down hill. I don't know what people with homes on that street with no off street parking would do if they started ticketing everyone. I would never buy a home with no off street parking. We had great parking when we lived on Lakeview.
