Last night my son and I got home around 7:30, at the top of my driveway there were two small dogs tied to my sprinkler. They were on a double walking leash with no water, no tags and no note. I brought them up to the top deck (where my front door is) and gave them some water and food and tied them to the pole on the deck. About 5 min later a man come to my front door and said the dogs were his roommates and they had gotten away. I told him to untie them and take them. Later I asked his name and were they lived in case they got away again. He told me they lived down the street. But the house he was referring to has been empty and for sale for min 4yrs. It all might be innocent but it felt really strange. I was wondering if this is someones MO?

...if the dogs had "gotten away" how is it they ended up tied up ? Sounds pretty odd.....

That what I was thinking, because they were tied not caught on the sprinkler pole. So I called and reported I was told that here in Running Spring, on my street, there has been two break in and my house is in between them. The dogs were a small I'm not sure the kind one white one black.

Could it be that a cat burglar was using the two as his "alarm" in case the homeowner (you) came home? Was he hoping that they would give him a little more advance warning?
Have you checked your house for signs of an attempted break in? Anything missing, footprints around doors/ windows that shouldn't be there?
Odd that within five minutes of your return home, a guy came around to claim them. The whole story seems odd... something is not right.

I check all of the doors. I have a bad knee so I couldn't check everything. He did have something in his hand. At first I thought it was a flash light. But it wasn't on, the more I think about it I think it was the end of a rechargeable power tool, it was bulky like that at the end. Which is all I could see.
