Hi!! Our 25 lb orange lump has had a tummy issue for a few yrs.... he eats way too fast and then vomits it up!! This happens once every day or so! He is a huge kitty and is playful and alert and does not act like he is in pain or anything that I would think is bothering him....he has dry food available all day.. and gets a little bit of wet food in the AM and PM.. He lets the older kitty eat her fill first and then nibbles on what's left!
Just looking for advice... Or sympathy?

WOW,mtnbn, That is a big kitty, I will look in my 'Natural Health for Dogs & Cats' by Dr. Pitcairn. I'll see what I can find on the subject.

You may try something for hairballs- u can buy it otc at your local vet or the pet store. If he continues to vomit, I would have him checked by your vet...just to make sure

Has the vet checked him out?It sounds to me like Chronic Gastritis, but I am not a vet. Symptoms are, poor digestion, tendency to vomit,And other symptons which your kitty doesn't seem to have.Which are, depression or hiding(either immediately after eating or an hour or so later) loss of appetite & gas. Do you feed a high quality cat food? They stress a natural diet. This book is really into the food being really healthy & natural. even have recipes for cat food. If you think he's just eating too fast, can't you do what they do for dogs? put a tennis ball in his bowl to slow him down. Have you looked up the prob on the internet? See if you can find something there.

I'm w/reliable,needs a vets attention, unless it IS just a hairball. My cats usually just puke them up w/o the hairball remedy. I give my very old cat boiled boneless skinless chicken breast,my other cat won't eat it.Don't know why! Maybe you can take him to the Humane Soc. in S.B. on Orange Show rd. Good luck

Do consult with a vet. There may be some health issues the vet can help you handle. My cat has a chronic illness that sometimes causes him to have an upset tummy.
It seems to help if I soak his kibble in water for about 10 minutes before serving.

One of my kitty boyz is a big "lump o-cat" - about 20lbs worth of pure love but besides the point. Cat grass, which I grow special just for him seems to be his natural digestive cure. Rarely I give him petramalt for the hairballs but mostly the cat grass is his "drug" of choice - go figure. He prefers dry food but will munch on the wet food with his kitty bro's. I had an issue with him a couple years back when he became stressed - lots of vomitting. Diagnosed as fatty liver disease and turned into severe pancreatitis but believe the initial cause was from RoundUp spray poisoning. Dropped down to 8/lbs, had jaundice (yellow everything: gums, ears yuk). He spent 3 months on an E-tube and eventually plumped back up to his fat and sassy self. So keep an eye on your kitty for too much vomiting. Like suggested a visit to the vet may be an option especially if your big kitty starts losing weight.

Thanks friends!! It's not hairballs he is hacking up it's the undigested food. Not losing any weight, still playful. But I will call the vet thanks again! xo

i hope your baby is ok,, if the vet finds nothing wrong with your baby i would water his dry food meaning put water in the bowl with the dry food like soup or get the bowl that has the small nobs in it that the animal has to eat around the nobs ,, i have had to do this with lacy my borzio/ pointer mix breed dog as she would do the same thing .. i would not leave food down all the time as this is a waist of cat food.. but thats me.. but this also would be inviting ants into your cats food.. my 2 cents..

Ants are gone now, but we did have have a problem with them in the spring and summer. Ugh..
On a fun note... I brought home a toy for the babies, a catnip stuffed mousie and now all the cats are stoned !! it is so funny to watch them LOVE all over this mousie....

My big man had the same problem, was healthy but a chronic cookie tosser. I would find the herk right next to the cat food bowl. At the time I was feeding the fearsome foursome Kirkland brand (we were on a budget so I had put them on one too). Well I switched to a higher quality food and no more herks. I only find the occasional hairball now from the Empress dark cloud.

Crite, it's been a long time since you've posted. welcome back! We have really picky kitties one day they love the special kitty brand from walmart next they want purina and then Iams. next it's back to Walmart brand and it's the same with the wet stuff... so we go from cheap to pricy and back.. Yes, they are very spoiled... we give them a special snacky every few days, a piece of cheese or lunch meat, chips, crackers or leftover dinner, not a huge amount just a tiny bit and Dale never urps it up. just his food sometimes it's hours after but usually within a few minutes...
He has an appt tues with the HS thanks for all the help I knew this was the right place to ask!!
