Does any one know anything about guinea pigs? I have two and one seems to be doing just fine. The other one seems to have come down with something over the last few days. His eyes are crusted all around, his chin is wet with some kind of liquid, his breathing seems labored and he just looks like hell like us humans do when we are sick. He appitite is not nearly what it used to be and he just lays around in his house most of the day. Does anyone have any idea what this could be. We have only had him for about 4 months but my kids (and maybe me too!) are quite attached to him. We don't have to the money to go seek veterinary care for him right now. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I'd hate to see him suffer if its something we can help him with.

Thanks

What kind of bedding are you using? http://www.oginet.com/pgurney/sinusitis.htm

Perhaps this can give you an idea of what's going on? Also just know that if you contact Crestline Critters & Mountains HUmane Society, they can help you with the cost of the office visit & any meds that may be needed.
Other than the links, you may want to do some more online research & see if you can exactly pinpoint the problem. In the m,eantime, I'm wondering if it would be a good idea to separate the 2 piggies?
Giid luck!!

Guinea pigs need veterinary care just like a dog or cat would. I hope you are able to get him to the vet. It sounds like it could be a respiratory infection, which would need treatment. You other pig could catch whatever he has.

I hope he's okay. I have a great vet, but she's all the way in Monrovia. I take my bunnies to her, she's an expert. If you want her info, let me know.

Thank you for the advice... I changed the bedding I was using and what a difference it made after just one day... He about 80% better... His appitite is back to normal and hes more active... Poor guy... I just felt terrible for him... Thanks again everyone....
