Some advice please! I called about the found shep/aussie mix pup on the "lost" thread and the "owner" says she found the pup 2 weeks ago on the way to the bus stop with her kids. The pup has been hanging out on her porch. She says she "loves" the little guy but he was acting sick and she cannot afford to care for him. (Vomiting yesterday, not eating yesterday). She says he may be feeling a little better today. I assume she cannot provide basic vet care either. She is worried about him being outside with the coyotes all the time. I would consider fostering him with hubbys okay but I need help if the vet bill is really high. I also would need help finding him a new home. Any suggestions? Thanks all.

This seems to be EXACTLY the reason we're having the fund raising garage sale ... we'll be donating funds to both the BEAR Fund and MHS, so I would HOPE that between them AND the wonderful people on this web site that you'd have help with vet bills, and posting here has found MANY dogs forever homes.

I'll pledge $10 towards the bill ... I know it's not a lot, but if a lot of people put in a little, it adds up to a lot.

POOR PUP! Bless you for going to bat for the pup.

I can pledge $10 also-sorry I wish I could do more. Have you called Sue Ellen in RS? #867-9999-
Let us know if you take him to the vet so we will know where and who to donate to.

Hubby is having a fit over the idea-he's afraid it will be too hard on the kiddos-so....I talked to the current "owner" and will post on "dogs needing homes". I agreed to call her daily to see how the pup is doing and told her I would get him to the vet if he looks like he isn't getting better. Thanks for all the help-I'll keep you posted.

Charleigh, my almost 5yo has been thru fostering (and death ), as long as you explain to them up front what's going on, the kids will be fine. Sad sure, when the pup finds a home, but I bet they'll be PROUD of themselves by helping a sweet abandoned pup find his forever home!!

But if I may suggest that you all get that pup to the vet ASAP please!!! You'll get help with the bills, if he's as sick as he sounds, you can't leave him out there. & wildlife will most definitley sense his weakness. If there's any way to keep him safe & get him in to the vet, PLEASE do so!!!
I would take him in but I after what we'd been thru with Gunner, I cannot risk bringing any dogs here until we know that all my dogs are ok. Sorry.

I stopped by to visit this little guy today and he is NOT well. He has a foggy look in his eye, is off balance, and his gums are very white. So sad! I'll try to find a vet to take him to tomorrow. The "owner" says he is no longer vomiting but is drinking lots of water. He did not eat yesterday or today so I asked her to make him some chicken and rice and she is going to try to get him to eat that tonight. He's staying with her tonight. I too exposed my 12 y/o husky mix (he was only 3 then) when I brought a dog home from the Pomona Valley Humane Society and she had distemper. Luckily he got no more than mild cold symptoms but we lost her. She was the sweetest thing. Thanks for the feedback.

Ach, that does not sound good! Is there any way that he could be taken to the vet tomorrow?

Do you need a kennel to keep him in? I have a medium-large pet carrier if you need- Then maybe he could stay inside- Please take him in tomorrow- and let us know what help you need! Did you call Sue Ellen?

Thanks for all your help. I had an appt for his this morning but when I called the "owner" to pick him up she said a family came and got him last night. She said they were aware he was ill and would take him to the vet in the morning. She was really excited he was going to be one street away from her in a loving home. I called the family to give them my appointment time and they said they had already taken him in and had to have him PTS due to parvo. They were very sad and disappointed. I called the "owner"-not to be mean but to let he know what happened in case she ran into the family. (They are nearly neighbors). She was very sad and crying. I felt sad for her but felt she also needed to know that she had that pup for THREE weeks with no medical care and waited until he was very sick before asking for help. All so sad. No one wins.

Oh that poor baby!! To have suffered for that long. & Parvo is something that if caught early, he would have more than likely recovered.
Shame on those people for not doing anything.
