From Green Valley Lake Thread, I guess this applies to the whole mountain:

Some guests are staying at my cabin this week. when they arrived, they noticed that the electrical power was messed up. Only one of the two electric water heaters worked, the washing machine would fill up with water but not go any further, and when the electric water heater turned on, most of the lights in the house would go real dim like they were not getting enough power.
I drove up to GVL to see if I could troubleshoot the problem and fix the problem by myself to avoid the expense of hiring an electrician because I am cheap. Since I don't know much about electrical stuff, all I did was flip the breaker switches off and on but that didn't help. I was convinced it must be a wiring problem inside the house because some electric outlets worked fine, but other outlets would not. I was dreading the thought of paying for an electrician.
I decided to call SCE power company first, to see if the was enough power coming to the house from the outside line. They came to the house within 3 hours and checked the power coming to meter.
Turns out that they had a "bad lead". Which was caused by trees chaffing the outside wires in the wind and causing the wires to go bad; about three years ago, SCE put a power pole
on my side of the street and re-routed the outside line to the house, they draped the lines over some branches without bothering to do any tree trimming. When I noticed that the wire was on some branches, I asked a meter-reader if that was ok and he said since the lines were insulated it would be no problem. I was suspicious but just let it go. Now 3 years later I was having electrical problems. So today SCE replaced the outside wires and trimmed the offending tree branches.

I did a little research online and here is what I learned.

By law, it is SCE's responsibility to trim tree branches that touch power lines: http://www.sce.com/kids/trees/trimming.html

Homeowners can request that trees be trimmed over the internet
https://www.sce.com/forms/ServiceTreeTrimming.aspx

SCE is not diligent in tree trimming, it is up to the homeowner to request it, we have enough trees to trim let SCE do their part.

If you have power problems always call SCE first.

If you notice tree branches near powerlines anywhere, request that SCE trim them.

Everything electrical runs fine at my cabin since SCE did the repair

Thanks for the heads-up. I'm going to call SCE and have them trim the tree branches that might possibly be touching or affecting my power line, also. Because in the middle of a storm would not be the best time to loose power!
