Yep, you can make foil packets filled w/ just about anything and throw 'em in the fire or on the grill. A whole dinner w/o any pots and pans... Diced potatoes, sweet onions, bell peppers, keilbasa, and frozen corn is a good one. Use Reynolds Wrap Release foil and nothing will stick!

Thank-you so much for all of your suggestions. I am not a cook (hubby does the cooking), so I can't wait to go camping and have the food already made, so on our nights to cook dinner all I have to do is get it out and cook, no clean up, I am so excited........ Hubby will know that I didn't come up with any of these ideas myself, so I can't take the credit for it....LOL

My absolutely all time fav is lamb kabobs:

Marinate in a bottle of Wishbone Italian dressing:

Pieces of lamb
Bell pepper
Onion (I cut the onions into chunks, then separate into pieces several leaves thick)
Mushrooms
Cherry tomatoes

Thread onto skewers and grill – Amazingly Yummy

You can also make up the skewers first, put them into a container and then pour the dressing over them. (I do it this way for camping)

Even though I’m a firm believer that a homemade marinade is better than anything you can buy, this one is an exception.

Thanks, guys, for reminding me (and giving very clear instructions) about the omelets in a bag. We are going camping next month and I plan on trying them.

Help!! I tried the baggie omelets last night on my stove and they didn’t work out. I used a good quality, quart sized freezer bag. I quickly learned that they would melt if it touched the pot, so I held it with tongs. However, the steam alone was melting the plastic after a bit. I had the water at a high simmer/almost boil. Was that too high? I was using a 2 quart pot (for 1 baggie) was that too small? When you’ve done these in the past, did you let them float around or did you have to hold them the whole time?

Thanks for your help

I was trying them out before subjecting others to them next month when we go camping. Glad I did.

I'm not sure, but there might be a difference between freezer/and boil in bags. I'm going to Stater's this afternoon so I'll try to remember to look. Or Rowan might be right

Thanks for checking, Kib. I just read back - both people said freezer bags.

I think I'll just make breakfast the old fashioned way - you can't beat the smell of sausage and eggs and potatoes when you are camping!

That's what we do! Much easier!

Grab a caste iron skillet, put some oil in it, heat it up... get a pkg of pizza roll/crust... pizza in a pan for breakfast... now we're talking

Hmmmm, Bashful, I'm not sure what went wrong on your trial run. I use Zip-Lock brand bags and a large diameter brazier (maybe 20" or more) for the water. The bags sort of float to the center on their own when I do it, but I do keep an eye on them and turn 'em over if there a bunch in the pot at one time. Did you make sure to get all the air out of the bag first?

Well, I did use Ziploc brand, but I think the pot was too small. And, ooooops, I didn't know I was supposed to get all the air out.

However, one of the guys in our group suggested Chorizo and eggs and champagne for breakfast/brunch, so that's what we're going to do.

I do lovecamping food! lol

i use cast iron (2 skillits 1 dutch oven 1 pot with lid).. ill make a chicken pot pie, and cobbler for desert when i go..

1 can chicken
1 large can cream mushroom soup
1 can mixed vegies
1 can biscuits
mix the chix, soup, and vegies and put over some embers (important to move embers in and out of the fire) after that warms up put the buscuits on top and a lid put embers on the lid (this is what makes it an oven).. when the biscuits are done serve it up..

cobbler
can of whatever pie filling you like
some white or yellow cake mix
butter
put filling in a pot and cover it with some cake mix DO NOT MIX IT.. put pats of butter on top of the cake mix (6 or so) put the lid on and stick it over some embers..

time varies on these depending on if you make more or not.. and a lot is left to taste.. i experiment in my back yard its a lot easier to do it here than out there when i need stuff.. but these are pretty easy.. you can sometimes find really good seasoned cast iron at thrift stores.. play with it you can make almost anything out camping that you can make at home.. i found some really good tongs (long ones, great for moving embers around)at the 99 cent store (i get most of my stuff there)
