Does anyone have a SoCal source for food-grade lye for curing olives? I found some in Texas, but the shipping is 3x the cost of the lye. Thanks!

I recall a Hewell Hauser California Gold episode when he visited a local olive processor. I think they were in Upland area. Perhaps you could ask them where they get theirs?

My neighbor once gave us some homemade (cured) olives & my husband swore that he had hallucinogenic dreams! Be careful.

RonCPP, tysvm for the link.

Twila, LMAO...luckily, this is for a friend, not for me; I try to avoid caustic chemicals in my food. I get enough toxins in my beer, I'm sure!

Good information here. I have an Olive tree in Yucca Valley but have never tried to cure the olives.
