Actually Ron, the prices of fuel versus the payment for freight are way out of whack, the independents have started doing just that... Parking their rigs.

This doesn't make the press... They are not forming up a protest at that "mall".

The reality is, they can't run with this disparity. Unfortunately, they are now a minority in the industry...

I predict..

Soon, without change, the main trucking companies (Swift for example) are going to raise their fees for freight to bring this in balance. One of two things will happen...

1) The shippers pay and we ALL pay the price.

2) The shippers refuse to pay the higher costs. We ALL still pay for it. In the mean time, companies will fold because of the transportation costs.

This whole topic of refining, supply/demand, etc. is BS, this is greed plain and simple. Our President can hold hands all he wants with these terrorists, it doesn't fix the problem.

When we get another administration, I hope we can at least get our energy policy back to what it was 30 or so years ago.. We have a LOT of catchup to do on this, I see no alternatives unless we get change from the top.

The truckers who are parking their rigs are out of business. The others, among my clients are busier than ever picking up the extra business. Too many have been losing money and have no reserves.

nod to Roncpp

I am sorry, not being articulate....

There is no way that a protest can succeed, in my opinion

Most of the trucking is being done by the big boys... I singled out Swift because they are an international company, as is UPS.

Do you realize that there are HUGE trains (diesel powered) transporting goods (originating in China, Japan, Taiwan, etc.) from the West coast to the East coast to be loaded on ships for Europe? This is because the container ships now are so big they can't do the Panama Canal, so they transport the goods across our country.

They are using our infrastructure.

Next time you are sitting at an RR crossing, watching those long container trains going east.. Remember, most of that stuff isn't for you. But thank you for waiting and supporting the global economy.

Bruce - Many of those containers ARE going to the Midwest and East. Most of the products imported into the U.S. are made in the Far East and not in Europe. Plus, the East doesn't have the port capacity as we have here.

Gemini,

I don't discount that some of the products are going to the east coast and mid-west for consumption... but...

And here is where I will defer to you...

I couldn't find verifying info on google...

So, what I shared I guess is hearsay I heard it from a RR engineer running those morning trains.

sorry to be passing rumors
