MtnLifer says,
Castine - i would only feel proud if it was done right.... It wasn't, and that is a reflection on our government. This was not these judges place to do. If you wanted it to change, then do it right and get it back on the ballot. We are not a government "of the people."
Fortunately the majority does not get to decide on the equal rights of the minority in this country. Otherwise it would still be illegal for interacial couples to marry. It would still be legal to own slaves. It would still be legal for some states to enforce poll taxes and intelligence test in order to disenfranchise selected minorities. If it weren't for a court decision, it could still be illegal for women to have the right to vote. We could still have seperate drinking fountains and restrooms and backs of buses set aside for certain groups of Americans. We could still have seperate but unequal schools for whites and blacks if it weren't for judges who truly believed in our constitutional principles.
Instead of looking at these Republican judges as activist judges, you may want to look at them as judges who truly believe in equality, under the law, for all Americans, yes even gay ones, as was set down in our Constitution by our founders. Some of these things take a bit longer than others to be put in place, but eventually we will get around to equality and justice for all.

4 But before they lay down, the men of the city, even the men of Sodom, compassed the house round, both old and young, all the people from every quarter: 5 And they called unto Lot, and said unto him, Where are the men which came in to thee this night? bring them out unto us, that we may know them.
It will NEVER BE RIGHT in the eyes of God. I do Believe now we are in the end days
God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for "HER" husband.
This will be Ca
24 Then the LORD rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the LORD out of heaven; 25 And he overthrew those cities, and all the plain, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and that which grew upon the ground.
Ge 19:1
And there came two angels to Sodom and at even; and Lot sat in the gate of Sodom and : and Lot seeing them rose up to meet them; and he bowed himself with his face toward the ground;
Ge 19:5
And they called unto Lot, and said unto him, Where are the men which came in to thee this night? bring them out unto us, that we may know them.
Ge 19:6
And Lot went out at the door unto them, and shut the door after him,
Ge 19:9
And they said, Stand back. And they said again, This one fellow came in to sojourn, and he will needs be a judge: now will we deal worse with thee, than with them. And they pressed sore upon the man, even Lot, and came near to break the door.
Ge 19:10
But the men put forth their hand, and pulled Lot into the house to them, and shut to the door.
Ge 19:12
And the men said unto Lot, Hast thou here any besides? son in law, and thy sons, and thy daughters, and whatsoever thou hast in the city, bring them out of this place:
Ge 19:29
And it came to pass, when God destroyed the cities of the plain, that God remembered Abraham, and sent Lot out of the midst of the overthrow, when he overthrew the cities in the which Lot dwelt.
18 ¶ And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.
19 And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof.
20 And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him.
21 ¶ And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof;
22 And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man.
23 And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.
24 Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.
25 And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.
2 And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.
7 Behold, I come quickly: blessed is he that keepeth the sayings of the prophecy of this book.
8 And I John saw these things, and heard them. And when I had heard and seen, I fell down to worship before the feet of the angel which shewed me these things.
9 Then saith he unto me, See thou do it not: for I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren the prophets, and of them which keep the sayings of this book: worship God.
10 And he saith unto me, Seal not the sayings of the prophecy of this book: for the time is at hand.

Just because something is legal doesn't mean that God will approve of it. Politics serves the will of the people... not the will of God... and people are sinful and imperfect (God bless us.)

Politics sure didn't insure the will of the people this time did it?

You know what I absolutely love Poplarguy about posts like yours is the insinuation that I might have a problem with people having "rights." There are gays who are against gay marriage. You talk about the little people. People say California is changing on its view on Gay marriage. Well instead of having judges make decision for a perfectly intelligent, perfectly capable state, then lets vote on it again. If gays want to go about things this way all they are going to do is create more animosity towards their movement. Especially when Civil Unions give them the same rights. I think that the government shouldn't be involved in marriage anyways. I say take the Government completely out of marriage and make it souly something recognized by God, not the Government. No more tax rebates etc.... I will get a power of attorney when it comes to my husband and health issues etc. I really don't care if the Government recognizes my marriage, do you? My marriage is a sacrament, and that is nothing the government can determine. Just because I don't agree with the decision these judges made doesn't make me a bigot, just because I think marriage should remain between a man and a women, doesn't make me a bigot. That would make some gays bigots too.

I am sorry one more thing, you put slavery, women's right to vote, segregation, on the same level of the right for gays to marry? Really? You think what slaves went through is comparable to gays not getting married (well some still do, but, it is not recognized) you are able to be in relationships, domestic partnerships, you are free to love each other nobody is stopping you.... I know you feel that you are the down trodden in this, but, wow... what a comparison.
Where you gonna get married?
