WOW!

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/05/14/vatican-its-ok-t...

I won't quote from the article, read it yourselves

I prob should explain my "WOW"...

This was meant as a positive!

I found this article VERY interesting

I would like to hear others comments regarding this who are more intimate to workings within the church

The problem with this article is the same as when the article about supposedly "new sins" came out. It paints a picture (intentionally or not) that just because someone from the Vatican makes a statement, that it must be dogma rather than opinion. It has always been ok to believe that life exists on other planets. Whether or not that mode of thought was popular among the general population is another matter.

A Vatican astronomer is hardly in the position to pronounce dogma, which makes the articles title seem even more ridiculous and misleading.

By the way, it was a Catholic Priest who was responsible for introducing the concept that later became known as the Big Bang Theory.

Anyway, the article is misleading. That's my two cents.

Thank you !!!

This is what I was looking for

I don't trust the headlines... I read the article, found it VERY interesting

So,

At what point does this become (if ever) real news? this is not sarcasm, just trying to understand the process

Hey Bruce!

I don't think this type of stuff is ever newsworthy. It's irrelevant.

I'm Catholic and I certainly believe that the possibility of life existing on other planets is reasonable. I know a lot of other Catholics who feel the same way.

The title of the article you linked to says "Vatican says it's ok to believe in aliens" or something like that. It implies that since this is a new statement, then at one time it was not ok to believe in aliens. That's just not true. If it was ever not ok to believe in aliens, then that was a social thing and not a doctrine of the Church.
