Today I was treated to some spring beauty with huge Ponderosa Pine flowers and a young cormorant's plumage.

And while we're on the subject, nice finally meeting you today, Mitty

Very nice photos LeeR. How nice to see the ponderosa pine flower, very unique and beautiful.
Yes, I said on the field trip thread that it was nice meeting you today. I recognized you from the photos and the logo on your shirt gave you away!

I think I just overused the word nice.
Have a nice evening.....

Thanks. I was in "uniform." We took three groups of high school science clubs out to do "Snapshot Day" water testing in the morning. It was very nice.

Would you ever volunteer your time up here to the high school?
Or have you already? Or what do you charge?
What did you buy for your mom, wife, gramma, after I left?

We don't charge for our programs. In fact, it's our goal to make the programs free for the teacher--we even pay for the bus and the substitute for the day. We do our work with high schools through different grant programs. Until just recently, we did not serve this area because it is not in the Santa Ana River Watershed, but I have expanded our area to include the western San Bernardino Mountains and the upper Santa Margarita Watershed in the Temecula area since that encompasses most of what is considered the Inland Empire. We are on the verge of getting new education funds, so we will consider havving some trips with other schoools.

I got a small rose that can go on a patio. Just got back from looking at all of the photos at the San Bernardino County Fair, and took my kids to tonight's Hawk Nelson concert--good Christian punky kind of band. It was actually an excellent concert. I was surprised.

I'll bet some folks at Rim High would be interested in
what you are doing for other kids and schools off the hill.
Why were you surprised by your concert experience?

We'd like to get them involved. Right now we have a waiting list until our funding starts picking up. My knees are getting raw but I'm getting there--it's a challenge raising money for environmental causes in a recession.

Hawk Nelson was a surprise because they don't get as much play in that genre as a lot of other bands, but they'll get there, because they are good. Their songs are fairly simple but they definitely rock, and they have a good message. They need to break out into a little more lead guitar for my taste, but they are excellent performers and they have a feel-good show. Also, their new album (just released) songs were a cut above what they played from their others, so that's a good sign.

Where I've seen you? Around, don't know where exactly but you're familiar.

Lee,
Thanks for the explanation about the band. Sounds promising.

Did your son go to Rim? Do you know any of the teachers there?
I heard a very good photography teacher retired from Rim HS last year.
Unfortunate for the school/students; I heard she was very good.
Have you ever taught photography classes? Lighting isn't easy for me,
even with auto settings on my SLR.
Anyway, I have been up on this mountain almost 24/7 for over a decade,
so I'm not surprised you've seen me around. Then again, people always think
that I'm someone else. I have concluded I have a familiar look.

I've been up here a lot, except for six months when I ran off to Oregon. For 9 of the 10 years I have been self-employed and worked here. I still am actually self-employed, working as much on my own writing and photography business as I do in my job, so I'm busy. Also, even though I drive a high-mileage car, I still work a lot from home to reduce my impact on the Earth (good excuse, eh?).

I know many of the teachers up here and count a half dozen as friends(and they count me as such), and two of them are my best male and female friends that I have. The guy friend has now moved to Oregon, but the female friend is still here. So yeah, I know a lot of teachers, including the ones who have taught my kids.

My son Chris went to Rim for a year but mostly was raised by another friend, my ex-wife, in McCloud, near Mt. Shasta. He graduated there and now lives in Tahoe area. I'm making the Web site (gratis, of course) for his two-week-old business which is booming already. It's a designated driver service. Here is the home page as it is so far, and it will be up on his domain (wedriveyourride.biz) by this weekend once I start hosting it:

Wow Lee, that's a great site already! I hope you son is VERY successful!
What a great idea, and you've designed a really nice looking website.

Thanks for all the info on you, you have an impressive resume.
Ok, you've passed the interview and the job is yours!
