I planted two different grasses last summer. One was the slope saver and one was a red fescue. The slope saver did not stay green over the winter, but is starting to get some color back. The fescue stayed green despite having a couple of feet of snow on it for several weeks. The fescue did not grow as long as the slope saver and did not have the feathery look to it. I am anxious to see what happens in the next couple of months. I have a lot of patches because everything else died off, gophers, and a puppy that tries to dig to catch the gophers. I'm hoping it will come back and fill in some. Based on what happens, I am planning on seeding some more area but won't know which kind I will use until I see how it comes back in spring.

It's hard to tell how our Slope Saver is doing, since the snow just melted off, and now there's more on it. I thought I saw a little green though.

Mine is green tufts and brown patches...but I never water it. I'm actually impressed with it, considering how little I did to my dry dirt area in preparation. Hope this helps (although I don't see how)

I am prepared to plant my slope saver now, I am curious to see how it does with the gophers. Do they mess with it once it takes root? Considering a mesh under the seeds, does anyone have any other suggestions?

Gophers, voles, ground squirrels, they all mess with it. Don't forget also that the bird will eat some of the seed. Sigh.

Thanks Nuthatch for the info. I am going to use some bird netting under the soil to discourage pesky critters. Did you have to roll that heavy roller over the top soil once planted, to set the seed deep in the soil?

What is up with these voles this year? I can never find a hole where they go, just these raised up areas.

I do though have a book of natural tonics, I believe castor oil will just about chase off anything. If anyone is interested in a specific tonic let me know as I can research in my Jerry Baker book of gardening.
