Just checking in to say hello.
After decades of driving up the mountain to fish, ski and just hang out, I finally closed escrow on a cabin in Running Springs last month. It was a forclosure and a "fixer" as they call it, so weekend visits will be more work than play for a while.
Now a question for you all. There is evidence that squatters have been using the garage. What is the best way to deal with this situation, and protect the house itself when you dont live there full time?
Thanks.
Jim

I would suggest locks and sturdy doors for the garage.
Also, get to know your neighbors. I am very close with my neighbor and he is a part-timer. I will let him know if I notice anything out of the ordinary with his house or property and he keeps an eye out for me if he knows i won't be around when he is up.
I would also strongly suggest an alarm system for inside the house. I was lucky enough to be broken into a week after I moved into my house and again AFTER the alarm system was installed.
Alarm systems really do scare would be robbers away.

We used Arrowhead Alarms, fast call back system when the alarm goes off. ADT sucks. Before we were full timers we left a car out front and lights and tv on timers also. Good luck

Welcome, Jim

She's right, definitely get to know your neighbors. Spend the next couple of weekends working outside and introducing yourself to anyone you see

Welcome, neighbors!!
I like the suggestions listed, and I’d also call the Sherriff’s dept. It is a crime, right? At least they will know to be on the lookout.
Funny thing – I met my next door neighbor on this site. A very nice woman. Anyway, if I had it to do all over again, I would have been more outgoing and gotten to know the folks in my neighborhood sooner. Best wishes with your new place and welcome!
