Sorry Crestlinemom I assure you I had no disrepect intended toward your son who I don't know or have I written about.I was speaking generically to specifically avoid anyone in particular but I can assure you if I offended you or your son in anyway I am truly sorry.

Mountain Deputy thank you so much for providing that link. I looked at all the print ads and then went to the tv ads. Upon hearing the girl scream in the shower ad, my almost 16 year old son came upstair to see what I was doing. I showed him who had screamed by showing him the ad. I then proceeded to go thru each tv and print ad with him sitting next to me not saying a word, but totally transfixed. When we had finished looking at all the ads he sat back in his chair and sighed and just said "Wow". I could tell by looking at him that these ads had a major effect on him. When I asked him if he wanted to talk about it he said no because whoever did these ads got the message thru to him that this was something he would never be around.

These ads grab your attention and make their point without candy coating the subject. I would love to see them being placed on my space and on MTV and other teen oriented TV channels. They make a point and leave you speechless. They work!

I would suggest anyone who reads this thread to take a few minutes and look at these ads. They are incredible...

The link that was provided by Mtn Deputy was shocking and informative. I have never seen meth and had no knowledge of how it was made. I thank God for that! I believe all persons receiving any form of Welfare should be required to be tested monthly in order to receive funds provided by our hard earned tax dollars.

Jules, I SO agree with you. I have to take a drug test in order to a paycheck, why shouldn't they?
Sent: Wednesday, April 30, 2008 07:27 PM
Who's going to administer these drug tests? Who's going to pay for these drug tests? I'd be more in favor of paying for more fraud investigators. More bang for you buck.

Many, many people arrested for possession of meth, heroin, and other dangerous drugs will never be prosecuted. A law deferring prosecution of these people was voted in by California voters maybe 8 years ago or so. It's contained in Penal Code section 1000. They must attend counseling and submit to testing, etc. There are provisions for restitution but I'm guessing the collection rate on that one is microscopic. If you're interested, the code sections can be found here: http://www.leginfo.ca.gov/cgi-bin/calawquery?codesection=...
I'm sure this has probably helped some, but I am equally sure it has hurt others.

Also, meth's ingredients--in addition to pseudophedrine taken from over-the-counter cold pills, can include such items as ether, paint thinner, freon, acetone, anhydrous ammonia, iodine crystals, red phosphorus, drain cleaner, battery acid, and lithium (taken from inside batteries). Just the kinds of things our kids need up their noses.
This stuff changes their lives forever.

As I had previously suggested to Big Bear Deputy, there is no ad, no conversation and no better method of seeing the effects of speed on a human being than watching one of your children become an addict.

You know, the child you brought into the world and put all of your effort into to bring him up, teach him how to this or that, spent countless hours loving. Only to watch them piss away everything.

What is truly amazing is why more violent crimes aimed at the meth dealers and manufacturers do not occur. I suppose it must be that only the junkies know who they really are.

What a stupid waste of life...

Gosh, I just read back. Congratulations Eric!!

I know when I was a teen they had me so scared of speed. Speed Kills! Remember? And heroin was deadly. We knew that back then.

But I don't remember being around it much at all if ever in HS or college. No Doze was taken by some to study, or coffee. I guess some people thought it would help them diet too. SCARY!!!!

I am sad to hear about the high school kids doing it. Why?????
Nevermind.

Gnome, thanks for your input. The plant you refer to is salvia. It is not currently controlled, but is of concern to law enforcement because of its abuse potential.

whprsnpr--Actually, drug dealers are frequent targets of crimes. Drug burns (robberies where they steal dope or money from their suppliers, fellow dealers or subordinate dealers) happen all the time, they just rarely make the news unless somebody gets dead. These homicides where you read about a car burned up and a body in the trunk? Almost 100% of the time it's a lower-level dealer who didn't pay his supplier for dope fronted to them. Many of the home invasion robberies you read about are dope-related (not all, of course) and many street killings are related to dope dealers. Being a dope supplier is NOT a safe occupation. Of course, all of this translates into our tax dollars and law enforcement resources going there instead of somewhere more useful.

I'm sure I'm dating myself, but what scared the stuff out of me was Art Linkletter's daughter, Diane jumping out of a window in a high apartment building on a bad acid trip. I was an early teen and the idea of someone jumping to their death because they thought they could fly on drugs was enough to keep me clean.

Since it was mentioned earlier in this thread this is probably the best place for this information.

Tonight (May 8th) on channel 7 during the 11pm news cast they will be doing a segment on the dangers of (currently legal drug) Salvia. Apparently it is becoming an increasing concern for law enforcement and parents.

Ya know, Mtn/Dep would probably not agree to this, well maybe, but, but there is a way we could rid society once and for all of drug abuse, sales, manufacturing and all the baggage this disease carries with it. It is a very simple solution and I'd bet the overall costs involved would be far less than we are currently experiencing.

Simple, develop a large plot of land out in the desert some where far, far away like, Indio...
Build nice housing quarters for every individual who chooses to participate.
Our government would supply, free of charge and and all drugs that are on the contraband list and give it to every person who checked. Oh, did I mention the fence. Once an individual checks in, ooooops, he or she must stay.
There must not be a quota of the drugs an individual could consume. All they want 24/7...
The grave yard of this facility could be right on the grounds with nice flowers and a care taker...

This is the life druggies choose, let em at it...
