I'll be sending more info to the sheriff when the site is working, but in the meantime...please be aware. With the cones on hwy 18, they are vulnerable. I was tailgaited today by a black VW sedan, plate # I have, who swerved around me, into the Caltran workspace. This car shot through, missing equipment and workers by inches, to tailgate the next car. Not only is he/she a maniac, but could have killed an innocent worker. Good grief.

Yes Please give your lic# info asap! When I'm out there flagging 99% of the drivers are polite and courteous, then there are the 1% that have NO regard for anyone's safety. CHP just might have to sit themselves on the job site until completed. That situation is too scary.
And for what? So they could tailgate someone new? Grrrrrrrrr, just makes me crazy.

Oh, and contact CHP with the info first. Thanks!

I DID call CHP, they told me it was still in "city limits". So I reported to San Bernardino police. Since no officer saw the incident, all they could do was take down the license #. Now I'm trying to inform the sheriff, to watch out for this lunatic. Goodness, these workers are our neighbors, they have families. They are not to be used as road kill.

Hmmmmm, I thought the City limits were about a mile up the 18? I really don't know. If you have time, which most people don't, stop at the job site and ask to speak with the inspector. Maybe give him/her the info?
No Jun, I don't work for Cal Trans, I work for a private Gen. Engineering Co. and work only part time. Sometimes for him, and sometimes for Edison/Par, and sometimes for whoever calls and requests traffic control. Say hi when you see a big tall blonde waving you through! Lan and MDW did!

KBfromTP,
I have probably waved to you then, I always wave to the flagging crews when I go thru. Seems to always put a smile on their faces... so.. mission accomplished

Hey DCC, how about posting the info here? Everyone else seems to? Then there will be a few more "eye's" watching out. I sure would love for this idiot to be afraid to pull that kind of stunt again! When I have idiots in my zone, I rarely have time or the calmness to take down a lic# because I'm scared for OUR lives!

You're correct KP, but the CHP officer told me "the city limits are half way up the mountain" He didn't know what he was talking about, but I'm not going to argue with an officer of the law.
Bruce, I wave as well, and slow down to ensure their safety. Slow down for the cone zone I'm so glad I met you, will never forget your act of kindness. We always look out for our neighbors.

Uh, KB, is there an issue with posting a license #??
Sent: Friday, May 2, 2008 08:57 PM
DCC, I really don't know. Posters have listed lic#'s many times on this site for stupid stuff that drivers have done to them. If it stops one person from being an idiot like you described, I'm all for it. It is public info right?

KB,
I truly do respect the job you do, and understand the frustration at dealing with these drivers..
But, DCC, I would be cautious about posting that kind of information.
Is there anyway you can contact the work crew and get them to provide collaborating info on description. Seems CHP should be the ones to deal with this. I am assuming it was on SR18 which makes it CHP territory.

From: mtndeputySent: Monday, April 7, 2008 11:17 AMPlease contact me at twin-peaks@sbcsd.org with the license plate number. At the very least we can have someone go out and contact the owner of the vehicle and advise them that their recklessness has been observed.
This was from an unrelated Sheriff's thread.

Thanks KB, done.

Everytime I have passed that construction last week there has been a a CHP on site near the workers, I am sure just for that reason of road rage idiots and to protect the workers.
I agree, post this guys plate! He could have killed somebody!
BTW fines are doubled in construction zones.

Rude Alert!!!!!
Those kind of a$$sholes are what cause situations like what happened to Wrightwood to occur

For that construction process, due to actual injuries being incurred by the workers and flagger's, they shut down the 138 for the project and required a detour all the way out to Victorville for MONTHS.
I would hate to see this occur for projects here on our mountain because of a few a$$sholes who have no respect for others lives

I just can't imagine what could be SOOO important in life to cross the cones and drive thru the construction!
Of course this is a wasted post, anybody who is inclined to do such a thing probably can't read never the less have access to the internet

Bruce, I spent a frustrating 1 1/2 hours yesterday after arriving home trying to report this. Believe me, I looked for CHP all the way home, no sighting. I called the sheriff, was told to call CHP. CHP said "Half way up the mountain is still within San Bernardino juristiction". Spoke to 3 different SB police officers, someone finally wrote down the license # when I said "I'm just trying to do the right thing and keep a Cal Trans worker alive..."
This is the second time this week my husband and I have observed someone going into the coned off zone. The difference was the latter incident did involve men and equipment well visable.

I want to commend you for spending all that time trying to get the right thing done!

Thank you Bruce, you are way too kind.
On a very happy note, my sincere gratitude to the sheriff; they are going to speak with the driver. Hopefully he/she will be more concerned with the safety of those wonderful people who improve our roadways.
Thank you sheriff!
