I really hope that we do not have to go down the same painful trail as often happens. We need to remember that this is a National Forest! Where does it end? People who visit here should understand the laws of nature and the guidelines for saftey when in a forest! I have lived here for almost 10 years, we have bears and coyotes and bobcats and deer and crows, eagles, hawks squirrels, owls, even snakes! etc etc be careful! So now what? we just go out and round up all the wild animals that dare to come onto our OCN "Orange County North" property and kill them? Yeah that is how we should approach it. Not be responsible adults, realize we are in a forest with wild animals, and either respect nature or get out!The coyote from the Laurel Canyon encounter was driven out of it's regular home due to the construction off of Cumberland. We have walked in that particular area for years and have always had a "keep your distance" relationship with a pack of coyote there. We left them alone and they left us alone. My wife used to walk her collie there every day, and you can be sure there was at least one watching you every time you went. But we never had any of the coyote come any closer than 40-50 feet, and never acted agressively. There is one old coyote around here(Cedar Glen)with a bad leg but he gets around as I see him everywhere on this side of the lake.My point being they have been here all along and they have been driven out by construction with no regard for the enviroment. Where was the enviromental impact study done for this one? Yeah we need more OCN housing here, there is plenty of water, roads, emergency services, etc etc. If anyone should have to bear the cost of trapping and relocating them ..... let's see ..... the developer? why do they need to be trapped and killed? Especially since they don't know how to tell which one tried to feed it's family!

I know. Right now I can hear some elementary age kids playing in the forest behind my house. Hide and seek I think. There are always kids playing back in that forest area without adults. I have to wonder if the parents know that we over the past six years have had one mountain lion, one mother bear with cubs, and a pack of coyotes, not to mention a bobcat.

The parents of these particular kids don't like me much so I hesitate to go and warn them. It does really upset me that they play out there alone. I have been listening to them out the window (for screams) and have rocks ready.

Right Spiguy. We are in the land of the Coyotes. Those that cannot handle wildlife should move down the hill.
How can you live up here and complain about wild animals acting like wild animals? It literally makes no sense to me.
Trapping and killing?? We are crazy.
I can only see killing a specific animal that appears sick and crazy.

So if the coyote is healthy and only trying to feed it's family then what? Not sick, not crazy, just feeding the kids...
It's laughable that the "padded" coyote traps can't hold on to the subject until they can... kill it you say?
The coyote has no qualms about putting it's jaws around a baby's head and someones worried about hurting a leg as the animal is captured and held for execution? THAT is crazy.

Lion, let's just say it would be better to take the traps away altogether
unless this particular coyote is sick or likes the taste of human blood now.
Then trap it, put it to sleep and stuff it. Or something.

I'm going to down load the Coyote Hunting Game .. You get to shoot coyotes from a helicopter in it.
