I'm wondering if the object he stopped to drop off under the tree was actually his camera... If it was, and they find it, it will be a nice piece of evidence. hhhmmmmmmmmmmm

If he didn't still have the camera how was it posted? If the story that his bike was missing it's plate and it was fould in the tossed pack, this kid was out to cause a problem of some kind. He removed the plate to make identification more difficult. This was done while his parents believed he was either in school or home for some reason. He could be a local delinquent or he planned to help the officers up here get some extra exercise.

The video was from an alleged ride posted in December 2007. This isn't the video from this week. But, it does demonstrate the familiarity the rider has with the area and a complete disregard for personal or public safety.

What exactly was the boy doing in the first place? How did this high-speed chase begin? Was a crime committed initially or what?

It's hard to say, but there's an indication that there were no plates on the motorcycle. I'm not sure if he removed them at some point during the chase or before. However, if he was riding on a public road without plates and failed to yield for a traffic stop, that would certainly initiate a chase.

In the early part of the scanner transmissions, I heard the CHP officer calling in a plate number - the officer said "he turned and saw me so he knows I am here". Somewhere during the transmissions I heard something about it being the wrong plate - I don't know if that was referring to the plate belonging to another vehicle, or if the plate called in was not the plate looked up. I do know when they caught up to him, there was not a plate on the bike.

I do not know what the circumstances were that prompted the calling in of the plate or the initial stop.

Question: If this was an off road bike, does it require a license plate at all?

My understanding is that any vehicle on the roadway must conform to vehicle code. This includes license plates, headlights etc.

Otherwise they are not street legal.

I can't remember specifics, there may be an exemption for vehicles under a certain size, such as motorized bicycles, bicycles, etc.

sorry,

I rushed thru the response to VickiW in order to take care of something..

What I meant was...

Motorized vehicles.

If it is strictly a dirt bike, ie, doesn't have mirrors, headlights, license plates etc. Then they are not allowed to be operated on public roadways.

Thanks Bruce - I was wondering that because if the bike was an off road type, and it had a plate, would that draw suspicion? I am guessing that an off road type motorcycle can be made street legal and therefore would require the plate....

You are correct Vicki. Any motorcycle used on the highway must be licensed (plates), and have all the necessary equipt. lights, etc. This would include off road cycles.

I am sure this is thye same guy tha has been riding around Arrowhead and Grass Valley for weeks. Very loud bike, Red bike, Red riding suit.

Does anyone know the kid's name? We're afraid it may be our neighbor's kid. Nice kid, loser parents, wealthy potheads. On Monday, he was riding up and down our street dressed only in a pair of boxers.

Okay, let me inform all you who dont know. He didnt leave anything under the bush. He took off his backpack and checked out his bike. Gas, oil, etc. There was no camera. Also when the finally caught him he was just sitting there. He thought he got away. He didnt think the cops were gonna hike up the mountain. And they stopped him because he was mashing up the mountain. I know because hes in my class
