Maybe it is the angle of the picture, but it looks like the motorhome would have rolled the other way!

The pictures tell the story. Damage to the unit would indicate that the unattended, fully engulfed motorhome was moving backward and probably gaining speed that would have enabled it to jump the protective dirt berm. The Officers immediate action definitely averted the start of what could have been a serious wildland fire. He put himself directly in the path of danger and then had to scramble out of the passenger door to avoid serious injury. The physical damage to the unit can be repaired, the cost vs. potential property loss to another fire - incalculable. Obviously, this incident does not warrant a medal of honor but the Officers’ actions go beyond the call of duty and are in the highest tradition of the California Highway Patrol. Thank you CHP.
