Lewis will have to send you about 7 form letters in response to this rant Dave.
Although I agree with about 15% of the letter's "issues", it was all over the place with too many topics at once...
We are finding out more and more about how Bu$hCo used the NSA to spy on his political enemies using lots of interesting illegal wiretapping technology...I'd hope Obama is above such behavior.
If the "Feds" come knocking on your door, I'll "vouch" for you Dave...Welcome to the club.

Actually after rereading this, I hate to admit I agree with about 49% of it....
3 years or so ago I remember posting this about fascist America as done by Bu$hCo...It wasn't well recieved here on rotw...I think it may even been deleted?
<<<<<Fascist America, in 10 Easy Steps
By Naomi Wolf
From Hitler to Pinochet and beyond, history shows there are certain steps that any would-be dictator must take to destroy constitutional freedoms. And, argues Naomi Wolf, George Bush and his administration seem to be taking them all...
5. Harass citizens' groups
The fifth thing you do is related to step four — you infiltrate and harass citizens' groups. It can be trivial: a church in Pasadena, whose minister preached that Jesus was in favour of peace, found itself being investigated by the Internal Revenue Service, while churches that got Republicans out to vote, which is equally illegal under US tax law, have been left alone.
Other harassment is more serious: the American Civil Liberties Union reports that thousands of ordinary American anti-war, environmental and other groups have been infiltrated by agents: a secret Pentagon database includes more than four dozen peaceful anti-war meetings, rallies or marches by American citizens in its category of 1,500 "suspicious incidents". The equally secret Counterintelligence Field Activity (Cifa) agency of the Department of Defense has been gathering information about domestic organisations engaged in peaceful political activities: Cifa is supposed to track "potential terrorist threats" as it watches ordinary US citizen activists. A little-noticed new law has redefined activism such as animal rights protests as "terrorism". So the definition of "terrorist" slowly expands to include the opposition.>>>>
THe other 9 are here...

"Harass citizens' groups"
Yes, it is sad how these tolatarian governments do stuff like that. You know, like when they have official reports that accuse gun rights activists, pro-life advocates, and veterans of being more likely to commit acts of terrorism. I hate when that happens.

I don't want the Feds investigating any law-abiding citizens groups for "political" reasons...left or right leaning.

And yet, here we are!

But most of it STARTED under Bu$hCo.
Why don't so-called "conservatives" see connections between "corporate America" and corrupt politicians?
Too much Faux News & AM radio?
They're "corporate" too.

As long as Lewis homes keeps building in unbuldable area, Congressman Lewis will think he is doing a good job. He is a real crooked slimeball.
He has made the list of top ten congrssional money grabbers for the last 20 years, Why do people keep re-electing him?

Old Guy - because when all is said and done, Lewis does help. On the other hand, great respect for Dave and his opinion - agree with 100 percent of it. Shame on government, both sides!!!

Kaaren - Lewis helps himself to lots of perks and 'donations' and the people providing them get the magic contracts for millions.
He was/is being investigated by the US Atty, but ay atty that gets involved gets transferred. Four of them so far. He is head of the committee that oversees the Justice dept. I wonder if he is using that position to keep the investigation in 'limbo'.
Too many questions and questionable earmarks. If it loks like a duck.......

Dave, I agree with what you said 100%.

corrupt_politicians is correct. Activists on the "left" have been dealing with this sort of thing for quit some time under the Bush administration. I am surprised to see that the "right" is now being targeted as possible extremiests or what have you. It is most definitely the attack of citizen's groups. I was, though, not surprised to see that these recent tea party protests got much more media attention than the larger anti-war protests that have occured. Oh it all seems too familiar!

OMG Dave.... I just want to say....thank you.

OLDGUY is right about "Congressman" Lewis...
He was under investigation for similar types of activities as "Duke" Cunningham...but it all stopped with Bu$hCo hired Al Gonzo as head of the DOJ...he fired the attorney investigating Lewis.

Thanks Dave. Appreciate your taking the time to write to Lewis.

Good for you Dave for getting a real response. He's never done squat for me. Then again, I have been a harsh critic of the GOP.
Word is (from a good source) his investigation continues, and legal stuff might be coming down the pipe in the coming months?
Tim Prince will probably run, and hopfully can turn this District Democratic after decades of GOP control.
SBD County is turning blue!

I have to say that the response to Dave's letter was inadequete at best.
Mr. Lewis failed, utterly to address most of the issues in the letter. He chose to only address the low hanging fruit regarding Veterans.
People need to learn to parse the B.S. and figure out when they are being appeased with condescension. Here is an example:
" The report was not worthy of the department and should never have been released, she told Commander Rehbein".
Napolotano didn't even apologize. She only said that the report should not have been released.
Where is the apology for it having been written in the first place. Where was the apology for one of her staff member's extremely disturbing thought process that was the progenitor of the report.
Why would the author of this report have been retained after expressing such shocking, and I might add, extreme opinions?
If people were snowballed by Napolitano into thinking that this was actually an apology and that the root cause of the problem has been addressed, and they think that Mr. Lewis' response was at all adequete, then I have a bridge in Brooklyn for sale.
I for one, do not accept Napolitano's "apology", without some substantive remedy, (firing the author would be good), and I do not accept Mr. Lewis' cheesy attempt to appease Dave Henderson and his readers.
It simply is not enough.

"We are finding out more and more about how Bu$hCo used the NSA to spy on his political enemies using lots of interesting illegal wiretapping technology...I'd hope Obama is above such behavior."
Why is it that we cannot understand that, in times of war, especially a war with a ghost-like enemy, alternative measures do become necessary?
Let's go back to 9/11/02. 14 or so scummy men hijacked 4 airplains with the intent to murder as many individuals as possible with their trainable missiles. 3 of 4 airplains were successfully plowed into densly populated buildings where innocent mothers, fathers, and even children were located, killing THOUSANDS. 1 out of 4 plains was successfully diverted due to the heroic acts of a few good men.
Undoubtedly, these misled idiots continue to plot attacks aimed at destroying human life, human decency, and trust.
There is not one single rule in the history of rules for which a very reasonable exception cannot be made. Wire tapping by our government is a highly effective tool for fighting CRIMINALS. Unless you are doing something seriously aggregious, you have nothing to fear from being wire-tapped. My consience wire-taps me every day.
This document is proof of the fact that it's writers are guilty of the very behavior they condemn. And for Napolitano to apologize after the fact is unacceptable. These days it seems forced apologies are all we hear about...nothing with true sincerity. It's troubling, and I am concerned about just how far left Obama&Co intend to take us, cause after 100 days, we're already headed full steam to the most extreme left our country has ever seen, beinb currently beyond any balancing point.

I think the Homeland Security has an obligation to monitor (not instigate terrorist acts) right wing groups. Over the past decade or so, right wing groups have been involved in more terrorist activities in the US than any foreign enemy. The Antrax terrorist, the Olympic Park bomober and Tim McVey come to mind immediately.
These are dangerous individuals. Looking the other way to satisfy the likes of Lewis is nonsense.
