I've been so preoccupied with the status of the Cedar Glen Storage Facility that I lost track of the 2nd
new, large storage facility in the works for Cedar Glen.Last thing I saw as far as status info on the one being planned by LBS, Inc. was:
"03/2009 Revised Plot Plan, floor plan and elevations
were requested; additional right-of way dedication is
required, per Public Works; the clear sight triangle at
Lake Brook and Hook Creek is an issue."
Is anybody watching the "progress" of what would be a 3RD Storage Facility VERY NEAR the ENTRANCE to our community?
If so, please share.
Thanks.

*BUMP*
I realize that the HUGE news at the moment is the identity of the suspect that started the Old Fire, BUT
I am one of three residents trying to prepare for the November 3, 2009 Board of Supervisors' meeting. We would sure appreciate some help from ANYONE that understands how having a Storage Facility planted forever in our "village" would be
PERMANTLY WRONG for:
INDEPENDENTLY ESTABLISHED ECONOMIC REASONS,
The exceptionally large land area that would NEVER be able to be used for any OTHER kind of business,
The UTTERLY PERMANENT CHANGE to our community's character!
(The only draw to visit Cedar Glen if this goes through would be to stash your 'stuff', maybe get a delicious malt, and then leave. Why spend money in Cedar Glen when it's so easy to jet on over and spend your tourists' dollars in the so-close-you-can-almost-reach-out-and-touch-it BEAUTIFUL Lake Arrowhead village?!)
The tremendous loss of value the nearby residential parcel owners will suffer ...
and for many, many other reasons.
Please - don't let this change occur because other issues are in the spotlight now.
Isn't there anyone here that could share some of the workload or at least provide some info here that we could use?
Thanks.

Jane -
When Boise Cascade cut up Arhd Woods, VP and former county superviso Leroy Hansberger didn't want any commercial development in the woods. he couldn't do anything about the village. He decided CG was the place for that stuff, because there was already some there. Leroy bought a lot of property there, mostly residential that magically became commercial. The boat storage facility on Hook Creek was built on improperly zoned lad, as was the body shop (same guy). Thanks to Dennis Hansberger, these properties were 'fixed' so they would be legal. Storage Facility #1! Yeah!.
The two new facilities will get in the same way. As far as the county is concerned, CG is just a burned out blight area and anything new is good.
Sadly, it is a losing battle to fight them. It is all bought and paid for. Resident's opinions don't count.

Thank you, Old Guy, for giving me a bit of history that I did not know. It's a sad and sorry history but I do earnestly want to know as much as I can about Cedar Glen's development, anyway.
Your message sounded so dispirited! I'm not completely naive about government officials' corruption but my own history won't allow me to think that that ALL officials are corrupt.
You see, my father had served as a government official throughout my lifetime and up to his death. I campaigned and worked for a Councilman (later a Mayor) in another district. I am so pleased to say BOTH men were highly ethical and truly cared about the people in their community. They LISTENED!
I guess because of my history and my own (odd?) character, I just can't accept defeat without giving it my all, first.

I have met Supervisor Derry and found him very personable and he did seem to honestly care about Cedar Glen's future.
I haven't yet met any of the other Supervisors. Have you? Any idea as to their views on the effect storage facilities have on communities?

Jane - they are all politicians! They rely on money to get re-elected. Money drives most of them and often sways their vote. You can get the best there is and it doesn't take long for them to be just like the ones who were there before them. It seems to happens with most elected officials. Local, state and national. Write emails to all of them. Ask for a response to whatever your question or problem is. Otherwise, they probably will not answer. Mr. Derry is good at responding. Josie Gonzales is responsive. And be sure to double check your "facts" so you can keep your credibility.

Jane - it doesn't matter what Derry thinks, or says. If you buy 3 of the five, you win. He can be outvoted, even if he is adamantly against a project. We have five supervisors. Three have reputaions of being easy to buy, one is questionable, and their is Derry who still remains an unknown.

Apparently these politicoes know a good land opportunity when they see one and since they don't live here, what do they care? All of us agree that Cedar Glen needs a facelift. But storage????? Not appropriate. I don't know what the answer is, since businesses seem to come and go without much success. But Lake Arrowhead Village is not looking too good, either............lots of empty stores, restaurants moving in and out.
Hopefully, when this economy picks up (if it ever does), we will be able to lure some profitable businesses our way. Until then, we have to be ever-vigilant about who and what occupies our little village, It certainly is looking tacky lately, though.

LA Village looks bad. CG village looks like a disaster area.
