Whatever happened to the Arrowbear Womens Softball league? I used to play and we had so much fun! I would play again if we had teams. Anyone interested?

The women's league used to consist of but a few teams. It was decided amongst the participants, in an effort to hel make the league bigger and better, residents from DTH were invited to join in. It did what is was supposed to and it got bigger, far more competitive. Then, those who originally wanted to just have fun began losing interest because it got too serious...
Softball is a funny game in a kind of odd way. Form a league with near equal talent and interest, any team can win a game on a given day. That is the best part of it as far as I am concerned.
Should any individual who reads these threads know of 40 or 50 women, "A Female Person Above The Age Of 18" who would like to form a league, let me know... I will help to make that happen.
Until the day that does occur, we who play men's softball thank each and every wife, girlfriend or what ever you may be to us, for the opportunity to play this game and enjoy this recreation...

Hey Bryan, Could you summerize the manager meeting, I worked late that night and couldnt make it and our manager changed phones and I couldnt get ahold of him, I dont think he showed up did he?
We had a co-ed league up here for a couple years and it bombed.
Need at least 60 women to make a league up here. I dont see it happening. They have been trying for 3 or 4 years and it never happens. Not enough women jocks

The meeting was your basic thing.
One change, so far, as Laura has offered to allow us to get more involved in running MSA in a more hands on mode.
Umpire fees are the single most expense in so far as our league.
This year, we are trying to shave away at the incredible $675 all teams had to pay. This year, the umpire fees will not be included in our initial payment. Just like they do DTH, before every game, the teams who are scheduled to play, will pay $15 per team as umpire fees. The bottom line by enacting this change will mean, about $200 per team less in league fees.
Now, I am still working on this, the second biggest expense is the cost of our softballs.
In the past, MSA provided 2 new balls for every game. I'd like to change that to ONE ball per game. If your team hits it out of play, you kick a replacement ball into play. This is normal for every league and tournament in every other place leagues are played. This too could represent a savings of almost $500 per year total and thus, be reflected in reduced league fees.
I suggested a "VIRTUAL" pitchers box like many leagues offer DTH, for the protection of come back hits. It was discussed and voted down.
Finally, and an important issue has come to light. We have not yet heard from the Black Sox so, as of this time, there are but three teams who show an interest in playing upper division.
Out of 12 teams, 9 wish to be in the lower division.
So, my suggestion is, we invite a couple of teams who we have gotten to know from DTH to join in. There are a few that our team have encountered that could be enticed to come up and get a breath of fresh air. I'll work on that.. Wish me luck...
If this feat can not be accomplished, I;m thinking, we do away with upper/lower division all together. If that can not be accomplished, Thunder will probably not register MSA this year and continue to play DTH. We have a blast down there.
We'll see how this can be worked out...
The next meeting will be 16 April. Same place same time.
A new feature on the MSA website. I opened a tab and named it MESSAGE BOARD. This will allow communication between players in and amongst the league... Give it a try...
