I decided to see what all the hoopla was & read the first book "Twilight". It was actually very good. I'll read the next one too. What do any of you think about the book & is it worth it to read the series? I haven't seen the movie, so my perspective is solely from the book. Just something easy to read while socked in for the winter.

Ok, this is spooky. I opened a thread earlier for this same book, got distracted and never finished opening it. And, now I come on and you've opened it. Yikes!!!

I haven't seen the movie yet and am on chapter 15 of the book, which is right after she spends the day with him out in the forest and then goes home and he stays with her while she is eating dinner.
My daughter-in-law recommended these books to me. She says that she has gotten so caught up in them that she feels a little obsessed. LOL. She has seen the movie as well. She just loves the series. She said that there are groups of fans across the country who are in clubs and things surrounding these books. It sounded compelling enough to me to start them. I went and bought the 1st book. I am really enjoying it and find that I do look forward to reading more.
DIL also said that the 2nd book is harder to get through. She wouldn't tell me why because she didn't want to give anything away, but she said to perservere and it would be worth it.
That's all I know about further books. I intend to read them all since I like what I've read of the first book so far.

To clarify, I'm on chapter 15 of the 1st book.

I just saw this movie today. It was good! Of course, as is always the case, the movie is never as good as the book. It's hard to show the chemistry between Bella and Edward that is apparent in the book. It was worth it though.

My daughter got the series when they first came out & read them all. I started the first one as she was reading the last. We both loved them. Then my son ( who is 28 ) had to read them too. I thought they might be a little to girley for him, but he liked them too. Then the 3 of us had to go see the movie when it came out.I thought they did a good job on the movie and can't wait to see the next ones.

From everything I've heard about these books they seem to appeal to all ages. My d-i-l is 30 and she has read the entire series--she loves them. My granddaughters, 11; 13 & 26 have read anywhere from 1 to 3 of the books and love them and my girldfriend who is 50 read the 1st one and now wants to get all of them. They've all seen the movie to and all agree that it was a super movie.

It was well-cast and well-written. Some things were missing that I enjoyed from the book, but they weren't essential to the story. I'll probably end up buying the movie once it's out. I'm really looking forward to the next movie.

I've read 1-3 of the books. I'm waiting for the 4th one to come out in paperback cuz It's hard to read hardbacks in bed without getting knocked out or having my arms fall asleep. So far, so good. I'm impressed.

One of my former students is in the 6th grade and already on book two. This child would never pick up a book until Twilight came out as a movie. Now she's hooked.

That's all it takes, Carol. One good book. Narnia got me hooked. Now, I have at least two books going at one time. Can't get enough. Reading is essential to developement of grammar skills. The readers are the ones who end up doing well in English-related classes. Yay for your student!

***possible spoiler alert***
I listened to the first book (Twilight) on audio, then bought the series so I could finish the story. It's not as thorough as Harry Potter. I don't think it's a spoiler that Edward is a vampire, but I don't know. If vampires have a problem controlling themselves around blood, J.K. Rowling would have addressed Bella's menstral cycle, but Stephanie Meyer doesn't go there.
My favorite character in the series is Jacob.

I like Jacob as well. I like the way Bella is with Jacob better than with Edward. Gasp! I think that the menstrual cycle issue could have been left out because the books are aimed at a younger audience? I don't know. Of course, JK Rowling's books are as well. Good question, though. Maybe that is part of Bella's "smell".
The fact the Edward is a Vampire is on the back cover of the book from one of her quotes, so it's not a spoiler. However, what Jacob turns out to be may be a spoiler???
