2 young women selling the magazine subscriptions. no, I didn't let them see in the house. when the one asked for some water because they were hot and thirsty, I told them to wait, shut the door, got them bottled water, gave it to them, then they went to my weekend neighbors' house. going to go call the sheriff now.

These 2 women (early 20's) approached me while I was working in the yard. Basically cleaning my empty lot. I felt they we're scoping my place and me for information, Full-time resident or part-time? I did not purchase anything but all of these types of solicitors I distrust as some sort of criminal activity, or phising for information.

exactly right, Michael. they started with their spiel, then asked if the guys had come by yet (the rest of their crew from the other side of the lake I presume), went into asking how many kids I had, do I have a dog, asking if I knew my neighbors, etc. I was cagey.

I said, "of course I know my neighbors" and left it at that with a smile. I guess they figured they weren't getting anywhere with me. oh, and the old stand-by, "we just came from talking to your neighbor next door," like that legitimized them. not that I haven't fallen into the trap before, mind you. was it last year or earlier this year? I can't remember when, but I let the young women come in (different pair, same laminated "trip" and "supported organizations" thing-a-ma-jig), they definitely were checking the place out at that time. I went out and 2 of my neighbors had been approached, one said "no," the other let them in as well. I did call the sheriff both times and she said they'd send someone out to check it out. oh well.

I find that a 100lb boxer with an attitude tends to keep these people away from my house

I did see the sheriff drive down the street shortly after they were here and before I had seen this thread.

Then how about a 150+lb rottie who spits when he barks? Or a 100+ mastif mix who will whip them with his tail while the 9 lb chi/mix scratches at their legs (LOL)

Its even hard for me to get in the door with those 3.
