The first 20 seconds of this video is shot in Running Springs. The rest on Green Valley Lake road and up into town. Don't know if any of you ever saw this.

Sad, but 40 seconds into the first video clip, the super secret "fire fighters motivation" is revealed. Listen to them talk (and clap) as they go up GVL road. I have spent many years in the fire service, and never liked to hear anyone talk like that. But it is reality. It's poor judgement, always brought on by the exitement of an emergency. I'm not trying to start negative discussion, just embarassed by their comments. Eric

The first video brought back the horrible memories of the night many of us either read on the alerts or heard on the news that the fire fighters were ordered out of GVL because the fire posed a threat to the ff. The fear we had for residents that reportedly stayed in GVL and Crab Flats area. The fear that our homes would not be standing by morning. The video appears to have been taken the next day when ff's returned to GVL. Poor judgement to even post it on YouTube. It demonstrates a lack of sensitivity to our communities losses. I am surprised, embarrassed and saddened as well.

I lost my home in GVL. After I got up there and saw where and how the fire got to my house I could see that all it would have taken to prevent it from burning would have been a shovel or rake. The fire obviously crept downhill against the wind in the oak leaves on the ground. The back of my place was constructed in a way that the wood structure came very close to the ground in the back. I always assumed any fire would be burning up hill where I had a high concrete foundation. Leaves would accumulate in fall along the back. I raked them up every time I was up there, but hadn't been there in about a month since at that time I had recently moved out of state. If only firemen hadn't been pulled from GVL maybe one of them with a shovel or rake could have saved mine.
Now of course a new cabin twice as big as the old one is being constructed up there, but all the large trees that were on the property are gone.

I debated putting them on here. It is so sad! But I happen to know that the so-called Slide fire was actually Butler III allowed to re-ignite by mangerial decision above the level of chief. I think a couple of firemen also lost their homes thanks to the poor decision. I live in Running Springs, but I was spared by a mere 700 feet myself. It hurt a little to watch. So many friends lost homes. One thing that is brighter for the future, is that we've learned from 2003 and 2007, fire crews are on fires a lot faster the past two seasons than ever before.

This is a video taken on Day 1
Day 1 continued
The Reporter states that there was only 1 engine, 3 guys and not enough resources. The video shows the firefighters that were there, saving the homes that they could.

Let's hear it for our firefighters!

Hear! Hear! A big thank you to our firefighters. Our home was saved, although the fire was 30 feet from our deck. Will be forever grateful. I've been through quite a few fires up here, but the slide fire was the closest. And yes, it was a result of the Butler fire 2, which was a result of the original Butler fire. So I'm ambivalent towards those higher up officials calling the shots on Butler 2.
