RE: PROTEST of Off-Sale Beer and Wine application: The Country Store Angelus Oaks CA 92305

I reside full-time in Angelus Oaks and am in opposition to an off-sale beer & wine license re: The Country Store in AO, for the following reasons:

AO has a permanent population of approx. 400 full-time residents. There are currently about six off-sales stores in Mentone CA at which beer and wine may be purchased. There are countless stores in Big Bear to buy it from. The local full-time residents purchase their beer and wine down-the-hill, where it is a lot cheaper.

The primary patrons of The Country Store are tourists traveling to/from Big Bear via state hwy 38. Hwy 38 is a curving 2-lane mountain road; it’s dangerous under the best of conditions.

The public doesn’t really need to stop in AO to stock up on beer and wine while traveling to/from Big Bear. Campers don’t need to drive into AO for beer and wine because it is available at the Seven Oaks Resort store.

It is my understanding that a noteworthy number of accidents along Hwy 38 are alcohol-related. That puts a burden on our local Fire Dept (Station #15), which must then respond.

Please check with our local Sheriff (Yucaipa Station), and our local SBCo Fire Dept (Station #15), about alcohol-related accidents along Hwy 38 between Mill Creek Ranger Station and Big Bear.

In my opinion, this particular off-sale beer and wine license application is a matter of public safety, and not one of convenience or need.

Having off-sales liquor available in AO at a store that caters primarily to the public traveling along curving and dangerous mountain roads, is a recipe for drinking and driving, and dying.

I would just like to say - “No”. Picking people's miscellaneous body parts from the guard rail is not a pleasant experience.

I also note that Hwy 38 is an official State Designated Scenic Highway. Please drive it and note all the beer and wine bottles littering the highway and turnouts. I have been at The Country Store and seen people dump their trash right in the parking lot – even though a trashcan is within 25 ft. I drive Hwy 38 regularly and see the discarded beer and wine bottles, too. I also fish the Santa Ana River and Jenks Lake. I regularly haul out other peoples discarded beer cans and wine bottles.

I take issue with the current Country Store claiming it is still a convenience market as before; it is not. Please define “convenience market”. How does the San Bernardino County Zoning Code define it? I’ve seen better stocked back packs. Make a visit and see for yourself.

I also note fyi that The Country Store has been cited for several building, sanitation and fire safety codes violations; including ‘coolers’. I am not aware that these health and safety code violations have been remedied, at this time.

For these reasons, I cannot support the subject application’s approval.

Thank you for your consideration in this matter.

Ruddick. You are such a Kook. You remind me of an old Cat Lady minus the cats. Keep up your letters and rants, it only diminishes any so-called "good" you are trying to do.

AO auga- I support your decision on the licenes issue, As a New "State" (No Brainer there) worker to your town, I agree also with the fact of haveing ipaled drivers on the road is a bad idea, or helping to contribute to there cause, because I know I'll be working that incedent also, so I'm all for your decision, 10-4 !

I wounder what the outsiders (Flatlanders) think about our town when they read the crap on this sight ,AOagua there is plenty of people that live here that drink (not I) and if there was alot of dui crashes on Hwy. 38 they would not allow them to sell that's why they have to post the notice in the window so they can determine this issue. so set back relax mellow out these things work them selves out and stop being a trouble maker.

You know there are just regular people who camp out and go fishing and just want to have a beer. If you are so worried about the alcohol laws, you need to start somewhere else besides a small town store. Not everyone is a drunk and most do contain their consumption. The ones who are likely to get into trouble are the young folks. Those are the ones who end up crashing...and the law requires the seller to check id.

Here is my question on this issue: Will the proposed licensees be able to handle the legal and ethical responsibilities of selling alcohol? They seem to have built a track record of having no regard for risk- legal, ethical, moral, common sense or otherwise.

I will be writing a letter as well.

Bajabozo Riddick is at it again.

" . . . misellaneous body parts . . . "

Priceless! What prose! What literature! Hey Bajabozo, you have a new calling - Great American Novelist. So instead of spending your pathetic life longingly watching the Disney Channel and making butt-head of yourself on the internet, you should put your talent to use buddy. Title: Fear and Loathing in Angelus Oaks.

So a local cannot buy beer because of the idiocy of a flatlander? That makes no sense!
Sent: Monday, March 24, 2008 04:22 PM
I think most of you are missing the point to all of this. All this is, is a little "stab" at the gang of eight and a attempt to "make it a little harder on them" I am sure if Jan still ran the store there would be no protest to the booz

Nice to hear from the good Dr. again or should I say Torston
I see T is still pulling posts.
Sent: Tuesday, March 25, 2008 05:14 PM
Who? Marvin? After all he is one of the gang of eight. You are correct to question the ethics of one of the consortium that purchased the town and voted the old owners out. He is applying for the license. Wonder why? The New owners did have enough money? Marvin’s group already owns a license at the restaurant. So why contact you at work? More unethical stuff?
Sent: Tuesday, March 25, 2008 05:17 PM
So did the sheriff arrest the famous Baja at the post office? Did the postal inspectors trump the local cop? Did Marvin prevail in his assertion that the post office was private property and Baja was barred from getting his mail??? Stay tuned for more AO Soap!

Love the idea of a Harley deck!!! Motorcycle parking, high sides, and the perfect solution to enjoy a refreshing beer after a long trip up the hill. Buy beer at the store, drink on the deck, out of sight, cheap, legal??? and drive home! Only 37K and you can invest in the wonderful business opportunity!! Marvin and Torsten you are brilliant!! Turn downtown AO into the family oriented center of town you always wanted. Now Torsten you can bring your kids up and let them enjoy the wilderness!!!!! Bring on the BEER!!!

Guess we must honor the pulling of the post….more threats??? I like the part “defame the license” must be something new…. How does one do that? I like the other veiled stuff. Just goes to prove why the town in boycotting the “heart of Angelus Oaks”
