Discussion Groups

There are nearly 200 Discussion Groups on RIMOFTHEWORLD.net. Some of these groups are community-based, some are based on topics or interests, and some are for specific organizations. The groups are divided into categories.

Navigation

On the Top Discussion Page, you'll find a list of these major categories. Each time you click on a link, you'll find the sub-categories below it. Take a moment to browse around and explore the groups.

You can always travel back up the category tree. A "bread crumb" list appears at the top of the page. The "bread crumbs" keep track of where you've been. They might look something like this:

By clicking on the Groups and Topics shown, you can quickly go back to these areas.

Threads

Discussion threads are the individual conversations within a discussion group. You can reply to an existing thread, or create your own thread. Many of the groups have a thread called "General" that contains all the discussions before threads were available.

By default, threads are listed with the most recent threads at the top. The messages within a thread, however, are listed with the most recent messages at the end. Threads with more than 20 messages will have multiple pages.

Signed in users can reverse the thread order by clicking on the Reverse Thread Order button at the bottom of a discussion thread.

Threads are listed for each topic with a "chat bubble" icon. . Click on the thread name or icon to read the discussions in that thread.

If you'd like to create a new thread, click on the Create New Thread link next to the icon. On the entry screen you'll be able to name your thread and type in the thread's first message.

Messages

It is a good idea to keep messages short. Also remember that others can't see your expression when you type. This can cause some messages to appear as harsh or insensitive. Using emoticons or emotion words in brackets can help reduce confusion.

You can add a message to a discussion by clicking on the icon or the Add Your Comments link at the bottom of each discussion thread.

You can also add emphesis to your messages by italicizing or bolding words or sections. To italicizing words simply preceed and end the word or words with a pair of slashes (//) like this:

The manager of the store was //very helpful//. I //definately// recommend them!

To make words bold preceed and end the word or words with a pair of underscores (__) like this:

__Never__ drive across a flooded road. You can very easily __die__ if you get swept away.

Emoticons

Emoticons traditionally are smiley faces (and other small symbols) made using keyboard characters. The RIMOFTHEWORLD.net Discussion Groups automatically change the popular smiley emoticons into small graphic images. Several popular emoticons are supported producing smiley icons () to sad icons () and just about everything in between.

Bad Messages

You can easily complain about an offensive message by clicking on the Complain About This Message link. Offensive messages will be reviewed when the complaint threshold reaches a certain level. Moderators and the RIMOFTHEWORLD.net administrator can remove offensive message and sanction members. Please note that only messages which violate our Terms of Service can be removed.

Tips

Please note that groups are open for anyone, regardless or residency, beliefs, or affiliation, to post. Some postings may contain inaccurate or false information. Be very cautious when divulging personal information in groups or contacting individuals from discussion groups.

Also remember that commercial posts are not allowed in any groups except for the classifieds groups. Take a moment to review our Terms of Service.
