I went by an auto parts place and took a look at a new catalytic converter, and that piece I gave you definitely looks like it came out of a converter or a muffler.

Scratchy conversation between two county units: Indicating there is a possibility of arson, but more likely a catalytic converter sending out sparks; would like the whole Hwy 38 corridior patroled for a 'couple of hours' to be sure nothing else crops up.

One Circ with a suspect, another thought is a catalytic converter faulty... can you put some units on watching the 38 to Angelus Oaks? We will watch that area, contacting FS also, we need to patrol it to see if anything pops up. Have an investigator? Don't have the resources, contacted SO.. Want an investigator? That would be great.

We've got two scenarios; I've got a witness who possibly saw someone lighting a fire; but the other scenario that is more likely is possibly a catalytic converter coming apart; my concern is the 38 corridor all the way down through Angelus Oaks; put some county units on it to take a look

(Discussion among Bear City units involves attempting to get Forestry to respond to this incident; only available unit is in Deer Lick. Engine 49 in Fawnskin is also unable to respond as it is staffed with only a driver. Bear City units can handle spot fire with units on scene; want the immediate Highway 38 corridor checked throroughly to see "if we have something going on here.")

(Bear City units are responding to reports of 'several' small spot fires along Highway 38 in the area of State Ln. (This followed the report of several similar fires in the area of the Senior Center on Big Bear Blvd.) First unit on scene reporting a 75x75 spot on the shoulder of the highway (possibly on the east side), in vegetation, with moderate rate of spread.)
