Significant Events Mt. Baldy School remains closed. See summary above for evacuation information. Planned Actions Crews will continue to construct direct handline, supported with air resources. Projected Movement The fire area is feeling the influence of a strong high pressure system, which will bring much warmer temperatures (near 100 degrees in the valley), very low RH, and strong N-NE winds gusting to 30. This weather pattern could effect the fire's spread and push it to the southwest. This spread would threaten more homes and establish the fire in more continuous fuels. We can try again tomorrow morning (to get tankers up), if no winds we can get something in there; we poked our nose in at about 11000 we got in to some problems; the top of the left flank is getting into a rocky cliff, in a dry wash off Baldy there; the right flank can continue to move up that drainage, but getting into sparse fuels there; if we can get some retardant in there it will really help you out tomorrow; there is a big pocket in there we can't see due to the smoke; if we tied both shoulders in it may be 200 acres or more; but there's a big pocket there that we can't see due to the smoke, so it may be less; we're heading back to Victorville but can take another look on our pass back to base later this evening.

fire looks to be about 200 acres or less; hard to see through the smoke; fairly active on upper edges on both flanks; going to be running into rocky country on the left flank fairly soon; right flank go into some fairly sparse fuels; it can still move laterally either direction mid-flank; if it runs uphill on the left flank it will hit some sparse fuels; still no way to get air tankers in here; anything below 11000' we get bumped around pretty much in there; helicopters are ok down lower

Fire started at 0430 hours this morning, north of Mt. Baldy in Bear Canyon/Bear Flats area. Fire is currently burning in the Bear Creek
drainage. Now at 100 acres with no containment. 240 personnel on scene, 5 helicopters. Structure protection in place. Mandatory evac. for Bear Canyon community, mainly recreation cabins. Heavy fuels, high winds. Winds now at 15-20 MPH, with gusts to 50 MPH.
FS Type II Incident Management Team to take over incident at 1800 hours. ICP to be located at Bonelli Regional Park in San Dimas.

Air to ground - The western flank of your fire will eat its way into some rock fall and timberline up here, the fire is wind and slope pushed; the northern part of the fire is going into the rocks, still skunking around in some drainages; some isolated fire has jumped the canyon on the west side of the fire; on the north side, we can't get up there to do much due due to turbulence; the NE flank holding good there; it will be a good place for crews got wind with them there getting to the tree line vegetation getting sparse up there; can work up that ENE corner of the fire; they'll need some helicopter support there to work their way up

The blaze started around 4:30 a.m. Tuesday and has already charred 30 acres. It's being fueled by extremely dry conditions and fierce winds.
Hand crews and aircraft are working to put out the fire, which is burning is very rugged terrain.
At this point, authorities say there's no threat to Mount Baldy Village. However, voluntary evacuations are under way for about 100 to 150 residents as a precaution.
